yeah, it's not so much about making room, as wanting to downsize for an eventual move. i forgot how much stuff I actually have. it's a bit sobering to realize how much of a collection i have amassed over a lifetime

      No.

I guess I am the only one with a different point of view. I have stuff since 1974 When I was a little nipper, and even though it may not be in the greatest of shape, it is something I grew up with that was there for the ride. And of course this was before the whole "Collectors mentality" that all of US have been exposed too. Yes, I STILL have stuff in storage that I have not seen in Eons, but I did acquire it for the sole purpose that it made me happy. 10x 30 unit, TWO 10x20 Unit's!! a 10x20 and a 10x10 unit. I have had stuff in storage for decades. 2003/2004? Yeah that is money spent that I will NEVER get back. But it is par for the course. Guitars, Amps, Gear, VHS tapes, Albums, CDS, DVDS, BOOKS, TOYS! Comics, (Sci-fi, Metal, Guitar, toy, comic) MAGAZINES, (Comic) ARTWORK. The thing is it is all a part of me, all of it was a part of this journey called: Life.

IN 2009, I lost my gig and I was struggling to pay the bills, rent, eat. etc.etc... I had to HOCK EIGHT of my Guitars at the pawn shop to stay afloat. IN the mean time, I ended up working THREE PART TIME jobs just to stay alive and keep from losing my guitars to the pawn shop. it took me about a year, but I ended up at a Advertising agency and was able to get ALL of my guitars out of hock and it was HARD MAN! But the Metal Head attitude of mine said; "Never Say Die". And I didn't, They say "Personal Possessions" do not fulfill you as a human being. Maybe? Maybe not. I do not know. But I will say this...

I smile when I see Shelly Moldoff Artwork, I get all goose-pimply when I get a Albert King Album, I feel like GOD, when I hold a Gibson Les Paul! I get sentimental when I obtain a Harlan Ellison Novel. I rise like the Phoenix when I find a 1970's tv show Bootleg Dvd!

And if I end up eating noodles out of a cup or Sushi on the Miracle Mile, that is the way the dice rolls as I am the one rolling them. I accept it. Cause I know the "RUSH" I get from my collection is well worth the sacrifice. I am lucky that I have no children and no spouse, as I know I would not be able to live the life I have.

Selling part of the collection is like Amputating a limb and I simply can't do it. I am sure my family will curse me when I am gone as they will have to deal with what I leave behind. It may be a blessing or a curse for them when it comes time to deal with dissolving it. And for that I will be sorry for the burden I leave them.

if I have upset anyone, I am sorry, it is not my intention to do so, I have lived a hard life and I have lived a charmed life. Collecting has brought me untold joy and I have no regrets.
It's up to each one of us individually to seek the path we choose in this passion of ours.

      JG!

I have purged some of the toy lines I am less interested in over the years. I’m kind of reaching the point where I would like to purge some other items. It takes me time to pull the trigger because these are mostly things I have had for 40 years. I don’t think I’ll ever reach the point where I sell the ones I truly treasure though. Where are you guys selling stuff these days? Still on eBay?

i get the sentimentality and the joy having these collections brings us. i think that is why we all collect.

i am selling on ebay. it just reaches the most people. they have made shipping easier too, though they hold your money for a long time which is annoying, and of course Uncle Sam has to get his cut now too which is total BS

Most of what I have sold recently has been here thru the marketplace. It is a smaller market sure but it is slightly less anonymous and you can set your own rules for selling.

things don't seem to move too much here on the marketplace anymore. you might do better on the Facebook group. i have way too much stuff to sell that way though

I just sold off over half my toy collection and am now working on comics. I plan to sell off my Figures toys DC loose, and possibly some New Megos, but only in bulk . I tried to sell some stuff here first, but members only wanted one or two items . I had better luck selling large sets . I have Figures toys DC and will make deals on sets of figures but I don't have Batman 66, or Superfriends, just the basic stuff.please don't message if your not looking for 10 or more figures at a time . I have buyers already but have not gone thru
the figures toys stuff yet but will part with JLA sets. I also PVC Spain and DC DIRECT Pocket heroes sets loose also and loose Diamond Monsters sets

Yes, I'm constantly purging because I keep buying more stuff, so its an endless cycle with me. I need to make room for the new stuff and out with the old stuff (things I've tucked away and lost interest of). The sale of the old stuff helps funds the new stuff. I have a ton of DVDs that I haven't watched in years that need to go. Same with some books.

Right now I have way too many of the WeirdOhs model kits that came out a few years ago. I put twenty or so in the toy donation bins last year but idk if kids even do models anymore. I just found another couple cases so I may do the same thing coming up.

Sold 99% of my Mego collection years ago. Just have a few Superman stuff left in storage. I also have a Superman lunchbox collection in storage.

I also sold my Superman Ideal-Kenner stuff. Sold all my high-grade comic books long ago too.

Started a new collection about 8 years ago. It’s all Alien-Predator-Terminator related. From tiny 3D print figures to massive 80 pound licensed statues.

My collection is almost complete…just need one more key statue before I display it on Facebook…maybe here if I’m given permission. Perhaps a YouTube video too.

A major purge is on my list for this fall and winter. I have boxes of stuff, most of which is worth little, to get rid of. I think I could focus better on the things I have that I like if I got rid of some of the clutter in boxes in my basement. It's just a matter of hours in the day, especially for the items that don't go for much like Star Trek Playmates. I'd happily donate most of that if I thought there are kids out there wanting "Kirk in Casual Attire" or 122 year old Dr. McCoy.

Same with me on the purge front. Too many things in boxes, I need the space and could use the money as well. I have lots of extra 1960's-1970's GiJoes if anyone is looking for a bulk purchase lol...
