Anybody else remember local hometown auction houses ?

Companies teamed with local hometown auction houses getting rid of their outdated non-selling store poop.

Big thing around these toys in the 50's through the mid 70's ...

My older bro (love that guy-RIP) went to every local auction trying to get me cheap - but good stuff

Remco Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Seaview sets ... Lost in Space Robots (yes I said "Robots") in plural ... Marx Johnny West kids --- Marx Playsets --- for like a penny on the dollar ... Outdated Hess Trucks etc.

You name it, they had it.

Anybody else remember toy companies getting rid of their stuff for cheap ?

we have an auction house right in my town, but as far as I know, the don't get closeout stuff like that. i think that kind of thing probably ended with the advent of Dollar stores

As far as I know, we never had an auction house like that around here. Nostalgiabuff mentioned Dollar stores: Before those took hold in the area, we used to have stores like Don Smith Sales and White Elephant where they sold old stock and factory over-runs and the like, but even those didn't have too much in the way of toys.

The only auction house I know of is around 40 miles or so from here, and they mainly used to do farm auctions, though I think they may have moved into doing estate sales and things like that too.

I remember when I was on a marvel kick as a kid. My dad the optimist said if they don't have the 1991 toybiz Ironman at the auction we will go to Kmart. Like an Auction house that sells estate sale items would have newly released figures?

The place I remember best, White Township Fleamarket in NJ (still exists today minus their auction house)...

Sort of, only they were regular auctions, probably weekly auctions.

They always had toys, many unexpected things, they were one of the best things on Earth.

Japanese tin toys --- robots, space ships, cars etc

Back in the day they were a dime a dozen

Today, just one might pay your rent for the month
