I’ll go with the latter and say Ricky Steamboat was the first guy that comes to mind. Incredible worker, always got big pops, and almost never had a bad match.
From the new breed (who mostly suck), I’d say Orange Cassidy. -
Depends. If you mean perennial mid-carder, it’s difficult to say. If you mean guys who did main event at some point of their career, but spend a good deal or most of it on the mid-card, then things open up.

For WWF/WCW it’d be Steamboat and Rude for me. For the eras you mentioned it’s hard to say because the product was so garbage at that point, but I’d say Mankind/Mick Foley if he counts. If not, further down the card maybe Ron Simmons/Farooq and Rikishi.Comment

Of the modern era overall it would R-Truth for me. On the female side in the mid-card, Bille Kay as a single. She took the whole "resume/headshot" story and ran with it. It's no surprise to me she has has started to do some acting.Comment

Shane Helms and Xavier Woods come to mind. Female wrestler I like right now is Shotzi Blackheart.Comment
