Also, in addition to the revelation that the accusation was "verbal assault", a further point of clarification is that Bale was not "arrested" as some sources have reported, nor has he been charged with any crime. He went in for questioning after his mother and sister accused him of verbal assault, then left of his own recognizance. End of story.

The bad part is, "the beating" and arresst is still getting around. I was driving home from work and some DJ was talking about how much money Dark Knight made, "but that still didn't keep Christian Bale from getting arressted for beating on his mom" There are only two parts right with that story. Bale and his mom. The rest is pure hogwash, but that's what will get around. Hopeful, responsible outlets will clarify this mess and Bale can move on.

Just watched the news here. . .and they aren't in anyway making this sound like a verbal assault. . .and apparently now the MEDIA at least claim that Bale is blaming his "Lashing out" on depression after the death of Heath Ledger and current marital difficulties he is experienceing.

It is also stating he was arrested. . .not charged. . .and that when he left the Police Station that it is on BAIL conditions, and that he is expected to be present for further proceedings in relation to this matter. In the interim he is permitted to return to the US for continued filming on the Terminator movie. . .but expected to return.

So if he is on Bail. . .and our news at least describes it as an "attack", and a "lashing out". . .and no mention of verbal anywhere. . . is there more to this???

Time will tell. Media rarely tell the truth, or get the story right. . .at least initially.

The reporting on this story is all over the place. This morning it seems like, Aussie stated, that reports are claiming this is more serious than it seemed late yesterday.

Could be, or it could be the whole "rumor down the line" syndrome where one outlet is just running what the other one said. Time will tell...or maybe not.

I wonder if the movie's revenue will take a hit for this either way?

              Pretty good rundown here:

Christian Bale arrested for 'assault on mother and sister' - News, Film & TV - The Independent

Again, I can't vouch for the source myself.

If "it's a family matter" like his sister said, why press charges against your own brother?

              This smells really fishy.

We also don't know much about his mother. She could be a real ***** and may have pushed him to a point.

Here's Yahoo's latest. Pretty good encapsulation. He was not charged, but is on bail. I guess it really does work differently in England.

" Christian Bale arrested, released; denies assault

LONDON - The darkness around Batman has deepened: While audiences were shattering weekend box-office records in the U.S., Christian Bale was in London, where his mother and sister reportedly leveled assault allegations against the star of "The Dark Knight" that have yet to become clear.

Bale said the allegations were false Tuesday, hours after the Wales-born actor was arrested, questioned by London police and released on bail. The 34-year-old actor spent four hours talking with authorities but was not charged.

British media reported that Bale's mother and sister told police he assaulted them at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Sunday night, a day before attending the European premiere of "The Dark Knight." The Sun newspaper said the complaint was filed by sister Sharon Bale and mother Jenny Bale.

"Christian Bale attended a London police station today on a voluntary basis," read a statement from Bale's lawyer, Simon Smith, of the London-based firm Schillings. "Bale, who denies the allegation, cooperated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police."

A woman thought to be Bale's sister Sharon told reporters "it's a family matter" from her home in Corfe Mullen, 110 miles southwest of London. A man who answered the door at the home of Jenny Bale in nearby Bournemouth said she did not want to comment.

The reports surfaced just days after "The Dark Knight," which co-stars Heath Ledger as Batman's nemesis the Joker, took a record $158.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend. Ledger, who took the iconic villain to a deeply disturbed and diabolical place, died earlier this year of an accidental drug overdose in New York — a circumstance that has only added to the movie's brooding mystique.

Asked Tuesday whether Bale had been arrested, a London police spokesman did not refer to him by name but said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault."

The spokesman requested anonymity because he is not authorized to be identified under police policy. British police do not name suspects who have not been formally charged.

The force later said in a statement that the man had been released on bail pending further inquiries and told to return in September. It did not specify the date.

The Sun said police did not question the actor Monday because they did not want to interfere with the premiere of the movie. The next scheduled stops on the film's European premiere tour were Madrid, Spain, July 23; and Tokyo on July 28.

In the sequel to "Batman Begins," Bale reprises the role of wealthy playboy Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego Batman, a brooding vigilante superhero still scarred by the murder of his parents.

In his destructive battle of wits with the Joker, Batman pushes his own ethical boundaries, and ultimately is forced into the shadows. Winding up what may be the darkest — and most critically acclaimed — superhero movie ever, Bale's Batman truly becomes, as coined by Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred: "The Dark Knight."

Bale first made a splash as the child star of Steven Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun" in 1987 and as an adult has made his name with intense screen roles. His earlier films include "American Psycho" and "The Machinist."

Bale is the youngest of four children and is the stepson of Gloria Steinem. Her assistant said Tuesday that the author and feminist leader was at a writing retreat and unavailable for comment.

Bale's current project is playing John Connor in "Terminator Salvation," scheduled for filming this week in New Mexico. The film "will continue to shoot with Mr. Bale when he has completed his International tour for 'The Dark Knight,'" said Lee Anne Muldoon, unit publicist for the movie.

A records check turned up no criminal record for Bale in the Los Angeles area, where he's lived with his wife, Sibi Blazic, and their young daughter."

Christian Bale arrested, released; denies assault - Yahoo! News

Who knew he was Steinem's stepson? That's interesting.

                    TMZ...

ources tell TMZ Christian Bale has had a long-standing difficult relationship with his mom and Bale's camp believes the motivation for the whole assault charge may be $$$.

We're told when Christian's mom and dad divorced nearly two decades ago, his mom forced him to choose between the two. Christian picked his dad, and father and son moved out to L.A. in 1992, where his dad became his manager.

Somehow Bale's relationship with the mom has been "bitter" ever since. Bale has told friends his mother was extremely jealous of both his and his dad's success.

Last Sunday, Bale let his mom and sis into his hotel suite, though it was by no means an olive branch. As we first reported, there was physical contact, but somewhere in between a push and a brush. No one fell and no one was hurt.

Christian's camp thinks this could be nothing more than a shakedown. We're told some newspapers and mags have already been throwing around "insane" amounts of money for the story, so mom and sis could score big.

But our sources say the cops are starting to see the whole thing Christian's way, and the charges could disappear faster than Batman.

Honestly, this stinks of extortion. Maybe I'm defending the guy too much because I like him as an actor, but I know if I came into large sums of money, I'd be fighting off shady relatives left and right. Not my immediate family mind you, but enough cousins, in-laws and outlaws that you couldn't even count them all.

I agree wholeheartedly Chris. It does sound like extortion. And while I have 2 loving and trustworthy parents, I would be concerned about relatives I rarely see PLUS if any of us were to come into large sums of money, we'd suddenly get relatives we never even knew existed. When it comes to money, you can't trust anybody!! Especially today!! And in the case of some, not even family.
