    Al Jaffee "MAD Magazine" RIP

One of my all-time favorite magazines ever was "MAD" Magazine! The satirical humor has never been matched (and never will be). When I was growing up, despite many teachers always arguing it was a "comic" it was not. One of the greatest cartoonists ever, Al Jaffee, was part of the "usual gang of idiots." The man was simply brilliant! He was one of the MAIN reasons I would buy the new issue month after month after month (Don Martin was another reason). Al will never be replaced (neither will the magazine). "What me Worry?" No -- his work will live on forever!!!!! Al was 102.

We lost Paul Coker within the last year and Mort Drucker (2020) and Jack Davis (2016) so it was already on my mind that it had gotten down to three MAD Contributors...aka "The Usual Gang of Idiots"... who I could really recognize and remember their work very clearly from my reading days as a kid. With Al Jaffee gone, it's down to Sergio Aragones and Dick DeBartolo.

Angelo Torres is still with us too.

Funny about Drucker, I was invited to a cartoonist get together on Long Island that he was a part of and he ended up passing away very soon after. So missed opportunity there..

I must be slipping. How could I remember Dick DeBartolo and not automatically think about Angelo Torres?

Love Sergio's work. It was through him and his Groo comic that I discovered Stan Sakai and Usagi Yojimbo.
