    Classic Tourist Traps

You love them, you hate them …

    Money-grabbers !!!

Still, the kid in you secretly loves them

Some gone the way of the Dodo and some thriving to this day …

Tell me about your favorite Tourist Traps …

    My picks...

    South of the Boarder.
What the heck ??? … Between North Carolina and South Carolina we get a tourist trap capitalizing on illegal Mexican immigration … Besides the obvious, what does that have to do with North Carolina/South Carolina/Mexico relations?

    Canada --- LOVE-LOVE Canada
Before 911 was Canada's biggest junkfood supplier …
You gotta have snacks while fishing right ?
Today, I refuse to get a passport to a friendly neighbor.

Never been to Canada since then

    Miss you Gents

BTW, just had a nutty thought …

Bought a Churchill Blue Cows Ceramic Coffee Mug from a Canadian gas station back in the day.

LOVE that cup and use it to this day …

    Did they make more ?

Ditto on South of the Border!

Great fun on many a family road trip spotting the imaginative billboards counting down your approach from many miles away. Some even had 3d and animated elements (along with shameless puns). There is a story to the name and theme, if anyone is really curious, but I'll leave that to your favorite search engine!

South of the Border is fun. I always use the sign markers to pass the time on a long drive. Usually stop and buy some fireworks too.

I would add NYC. it's ridiculously expensive, loud and crowded. full of tourists all the time at places like Times Square, Statue of Liberty, etc

I don't know if this is still true today, but Stuckeys.

I did see South of the Border when we drove across the country in our Ford Van in 1979, but I looked forward to stopping at Stuckey's Along with their famous pecan roll, they were chock-full of kitchy state-related tchotchkes like state-shaped magnets, oh-so-70s bumper stickers and $1 flip flops. I annoyed my mom into buying me the giant "Texas-Sized" flywatter in Amarillo!

          WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.

The whole country of Canada is a Tourist Trap? LOL! I just started going back to Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada to get some groceries (including Canadian candy) and Duty Free liquor.

I went to Gatlinburg, TN for the first time last year. It reminded me of Niagara Falls, Ontario; very touristy. But once I got used to the area, we had a great time. The Smoky Mountains are beautiful.

we hit Gatlinburg for the first time as well last summer too. Agreed, it is very much like Niagara Falls. We had a blast too but i would not feel compelled to go there again. We are actually looking to retire down to the smoky mountains area
