This is something I will have to think about pretty soon (my son is 2 years old now). Unfortunately, my "kid safe" barometer seems to be nearly non-existant right now in some cases. I'll be watching a movie like 300 or THE WILD BUNCH and my son will wake up from his nap and wander into the room and I'll keep it on, with him sitting down watching beside me, until my wife comes in and complains. Maybe it's because I still think of him as being too young to understand and absorb what is happening on TV? I'll have to watch that.

But I still remember being 7 or 8 years old, and my parents wouldn't let me watch Happy Days or Three's Company. (yet I got a Mego Fonzie for Christmas a year or so later)

My son was big on Max and Ruby when he was little. Ruby was more a mother character than a sister, and let's face it, Max always got the better of her, so her tude never bothered me. Max always made her look like a smuck.

I would never let my kid watch Barney when he was little. I always found that show offensive for some reason.

Now that he's older, it's a question of what kind of violence it is. I had no problem taking him to see Iron Man, even Hellboy. The violence there is kind of cartoony, but I wont take him to see Batman:Dark Knight. The violence is just to real in that flick from all accounts.

    Family Guy, Simpsons, Futurama.

When they were younger: Barney and TeleTubbies although they had mostly disappeared, thankfully.

    That's about it really.

I just pretty Much try & stay away from any sorta Racial topics or "Humor" ,... I don't need to be explaining anything until he's of age,.. when he can do it himself. I just don't feel it's good for the House.

lol! man sometimes I forget how bad Family guy really is,it's funny but not for kids
One night my 3 year old couldn't sleep and I was watching Family guy while holding her, I never realised how adult it was. I changed the channel within 2 minutes.

    1. Max and Ruby- Ruby treats her little brother like a punk and I don't want Lizzy to get the impression it's ok to do. Poor max is about 3 or 2 and Ruby is about 5 or 6. When Ruby's friends come over they keep max away from them.

    2. Spongebob- This show is just not for my daughter.

    3. Family guy- WAY too adult for a 5 yr. old.

    4. Any movie over a G rating (at 5, G is good enough)

These are my picks for my daughter and it works for us. Maybe I'm a bit overprotective but at her age I like her to watch TV with lessons or learning attached to it.Do you guys restrict what your kids watch?

Ruby is a total Jerk, not to mention her condescending tone. Ech, that show angers my wife.

We don't let the kids watch:

Family Guy/American Dad- I like those shows but there's just no way.

    6teen/Total Drama Island

    Couille- That kid whines.

    Barney- I hate Barney.

    Martin mysteries- gives them nightmares.

Simpsons-only when we watch with them.

We do love ourselves Spongebob, fairly odd parents, Johnny Test, superfriends and Atomic betty. We have a retro cartoon channel and the kids love fat albert, looney tunes and rocket robin hood. Although some of the old Andy Panda cartoons shown on there are insanely racist, I'm not so cool with those.
