    Pele

The great Pele has died at age 82. One guilty pleasure film for me has always been Victory (sometimes listed as Escape to Victory), with Pele, Michael Caine, and Sly Stallone playing soccer in WW2 against Germans.
    Hugh H. Davis

Wanted: Legends of the West (Empire & Excel) and other western historically-based figures. Send me an offer.
Also interested in figures based on literary characters.

I largely didn't know anything about Soccer(Football) as a sport that you could actually play until I was in middle school. Mine was a football and baseball neighborhood. But I knew who Pele was as a grade schooler. And because of him, I knew who the New York Cosmos were. Something about him was instantly likeable and fascinating and cool. And I imagine it's because of him that Soccer starting catching on as a sport in the US through the 70s. At least enough that a rural Oklahoma kid like me was getting to play in organized leagues by 1980.

I know very little about Soccer, but does anyone know why Mego decided to go with Franz Beckenbauer instead of Pelé?
You are transparent; I see many things... I see plans within plans.

MC Toy was the German distributor of Mego toys in Germany. Beckenbauer is a legend there. Pele got toys in the US but it wasn't by Mego.
