I believe Two-face is dead. Batman took the fall to protect the face of justice. If Two-Face comes back, Gotham would see the cover up and subsequently the whole story for Batman taking the fall would no longer make sense. It would also place a big credibility problem between Gordon and the police department. I don't think Batman would ask Gordon to do that for him.
    It was a brilliant film.

Yeah, for a monent I kinda thought I saw Harvey's chest rise and fall too, but it seemed like the whole context was that he was dead (although it's never explicitly stated while they're standing over him). I just thought it was a goof, but I was more than a bit disappointed that they would kill off such a well-develped, perfectly exicuted character. Hope the cover-up theory is true!

My problem with the Catwomen being in the next movie is that, for me (Year One being my all-time favorite Batman story), Frank Miller provided the best and most psychologicaly plosible explination for a women dressing up like a cat and engaging in crime: an S & M prostitute.

Thing is, I think this movie pushed it as far as they can go with that sort of dark n' gritty stuff. I think the general movie going public would regect it, and to me anything other than the Miller explination would seem corney. But Nolan has proved me wrong on several things. Provided he's the next director, I have faith he could pull it off however he chooses to do it. Anyone else, I don't know..

Responding to the sentence I bolded, above, the public did not know about "Two-Face" -- only that Dent was injured in the fire and then supposedly killed by Batman. That Gotham would see the cover up after Two Face returns is exactly the point: Batman must be exonerated at some point. The public will have to discover that, hey, Batman took the fall for this guy who we thought was so heroic, but as it turned out was a murderer. Then Batman, who was thought to be a villain, will be embraced by the city as the hero they need to inspire and help them.

Ah--yes--this is my point. He could very easily be captured and made to talk. Everybody knows who the guy is. I'm not saying it's going to happen--it would just be too easy. I shall say no more about this

Yet another reason why I don't think Two Face is dead, as Vortigern mentioned, Batman must eventually be exonerated, probably in the next movie. But I mean really the whole point is that they did in fact leave it open did they not?

Well I caught it last night, and I must say. Heath Ledger put out his best work before he died. I was simply blown away by the job he did. I never thought any one could top Jack as the Joker, but I was wrong. He nailed every level of a psycho as he could have. I will say it's the best portrayal of a comic character that has been put on film. I haven't been a huge fan of the Batman or Superman movies,(in fact I'm a bigger Marvel fan than DC), and I was never a Ledger fan but I do believe it should win a best actor award. I do not think I've seen a better acting job portraying a character in many years. He not only represented a character most already know, but also put his own undeniable mark on it as well. If you haven't seen it, your doing yourself an injustice. Even if you're not a Batman fan. Now for other aspects. I was glad they killed off Two-Face because I hated the choice of actors. He pulled off Dent OK, but not the twistedness of Two-Face. Wasn't Batgirl Commish. Gordon's daughter? He has two sons in the movie. Or was one of them a girl and I missed it. His wife was named Barbara. Wouldn't you at least put a daughter their for the future opening of Batgirl if you wanted? That confused me. I wish they would have put more gore in it. Not a lot because I don't want to see little kids crying in their seats, but Ledger did such a great job of being a psycho killer, and Two Face offs a few people, but you never actually see anything. I think it would have added to the complete 180 turn around of a loyal city hero gone bad. It might have made him more appealing as a killer, as I thought he was good as the DA, but lost me in the transformation. Since they chose to kill him off, it would have been better if Rachel had survived but he thought she had died and found out at the last minute, realizing he had turned bad for no reason. Have him die, and have Rachel blame it on Batman, and run to Bruce for consolation. Leave her loving/hating the same man. Kinda like the Spidey Franco/Maguire relationship after the Goblin dies. Of course they ruined that possibility early on by letting Rachel know Bruce was actually Batman. Lack of vision in my opinion. Love Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine in their respective parts also. I believe MF will go astray, by the line in the movie where he asks Bruce if he redirected the funding for R&D. When Bruce says yes, Freeman looks at him with a "What the !!!!","Thanks for letting me know look". That could easily be escalated into a situation where someone that turns on Bruce and knows literally everything. After seeing Wanted you know Freeman can play the bad guy if needed to. I will say with the death of Rachel, it does leave a nice opening for a relationship with a Catwoman character if that is the next movie villain. Angelina Jolie would rule!! See other post. They'll need a new love interest and that would lead in nicely and be able to be wrapped up in one movie. While I like Marvel's movies because they tend to stick to the comics and be light hearted, I really like this movie's dark side, and would enjoy them sticking to this plan in the future. This really fits the Batman character to a "T". I really wish they had killed off the Joker as they did with Nicholson. Only because of the death of Ledger, which they obviously didn't know was coming, because I don't want to see any one else portray him now. I truly thought this was the best comic related movie I've seen this year. It was better than Ironman, though different IMO. I hope they will continue on as I would like to see more movies in the Batman series after this one.

Gordon is shown as having a daughter. She never speaks, and we never really see her face, but she is there being held by Two-Face.

When Gordon goes home to reveal to his wife that he is alive, his son comes to the door and he tells him to go get Barbara.

Yeah, Gordon's wife and his daughter are both named Barbara. Kind of confusing, but it's canon.

Ok lots to comment on, number one Heath Ledger was amazing! He has embodied every part of joker I hold dear. I loved his dark manner, his silliness, his multiple origin stories, everything about the Joker, Heath got. I am 90% sure Harvey is not dead for a few reasons one being Nolan said time and time again "If they don't die in the comics they won't die in my movies." Two there is the breathing chest heave thing going on. Three I don't think even the citizens of Gotham are meant to believe he is dead because at the speech Gordon was giving for him the flags around him are at full mast if he were dead I would think they would be at half mast and once again I don't think Nolan would have missed that. Also Batman didn't seem hurt at all by the fall so I am guessing Harvey made it and is just locked up in Arkham. So I think that was more of an in honer of him thing no a death thing. I also caught he "Cat" reference and do hope the introduce Selina. I also think Riddler would be amazing in these movies. As far as Penguin goes I hear Nolan will only do it if Philip Seymour Hoffman will sign on for it and the role was offered to him and he declined. I fully agree with and have been using the "Empire" analogy since opening night. I have to hope Nolan and Bale will be back for thirds I assume that is Nolan's plan any how since we are waiting on our big reveals like the Batcave now the Bat Tumbler is destroyed time for a Bat Mobile perhaps. And yes we need an uplifting return for Batman. I loved the film I hope they don't recast Joker but I also want them to find a place for Harley in the movies. And yes I thought it was a little silly that both Gordan and his son are named Jim and both his wife and daughter are named Barbra but yes she was totally in this one. Whew well that is all I will say for now. Thanks for listening.

I knew there were two kids, but I thought they were both boys. Guess they should have let her have some lines. I never realized the other child was a girl. So I guess that's OK and leaves some direction choices in the future. I was unaware both the mother and daughter were named Barbara. That was actually what threw me off. Is that the way it was in the comic?

I don't think Gordon's wife had a name before Batman: Year One. If she did it was rarely referenced. Miller named Gordon's wife Barbara, and they had a son Jim (pre-Crisis, Jim had a son named Tony), and no daughter was in sight. DC had to make Barbara/Batgirl Gordon's niece, whom he adopted after his brother and sister-in-law died.

One of Gordon's kids was definitely a girl, she's well covered up, but I could still see that it was indeed a girl.

i made an exception and went and saw batman on opening weekend. i liked the movie i do think dent is alive . also i think the joker will be in another batman movie , not the next one but maybe the one after that. my favorite line in the movie was when the joker hanging upside down said to batman i think we are going to be doing this a long time. i do think the movie left for some openings in the next like dent and joker or the other guy who knows batmans identity . i am definitly getting this movie when it comes to dvd. i would recommend it to anybody but wouldnt bring my young kids to see it. mike

There was a boy and a girl (little Jimmy and little Barbie). They never even showed her face. I think they're holding back on any Batgirl reference because it's too related to the TV series and if they bring on Batgirl, I might seem to hokey.
