I worked at 911 for about a year back in the day. Most head scratching moment I can remember is a lady who called and said her neighbor was looking at her because he knew it made her angry.
Funniest is when we got a call about a stolen human cranium.
Scariest is when a guy called in and said his wife’s dead body was under his trailer.
Most absurd is when a lady called about two girls stealing from the Dollar Store, but refused to describe the suspects because she “didn’t see color.”
Nicest call was an older lady who called and was scared because her husband was out of town and someone was banging on her door. She cried, and I asked if she wanted me to remain on the line until officers arrived. She did. We talked about the police procedural she was watching until they got there. No bad guys. She’d forgot to latch her screen door and it was banging against the frame whenever the wind blew.
Don’t recall any particularly heartwarming ones like in that video, but I used to get a girl who called regularly asking if 911 was hiring. Like, almost every day. I think she was lonely and just wanted someone to talk to. One time after we hung up, she called right back and said “you didn’t say bye bye.” I did, but apologized anyway and made sure to say it again for her before we hung up.
Anyone who has ever been a policeman, rode along with policeman, or even done work tangentially related like 911, would never talk badly about law enforcement again. These are the most overworked, overstressed, underpaid people in America. The amount of danger, absurdity, and pure evil they face on a daily basis is unimaginable. Police get everybody on the worst day of their life. Truly a thankless job.Last edited by Liu Bei; Dec 24, '22, 1:01 PM.Comment

watching the video and hearing the audio ,i got the impression it was more about a softly softly approach to checking the child's welfare and good intuition on behalf of the call handler than a desire to fulfill a little lads need for company
all in all a great result and great for community relations
and a thrill for the little feller
nice it had a happy ending for all concerned sadly many dontComment

Very well stated.
It’s human nature to lump every police officer into a negative grouping based on the bad actions of a few, but overall most are honest, hard working individuals doing a job most of us wouldn't want.Comment

People want a Lamborghini level 911 system and cry at Yugo price levels. If you skimp on paying 911 operators you get to enjoy the hold music as your child dies.Comment
