I was hoping the rubber suit would go away in Begins, BUT Nolan and company sold me on the need for it. In this take, which is as realistic as any take on Batman can ever be, it makes no sense for him to run around in tights. And as good as the Dead End Batman looked, imagine that guy as Bruce Wayne. He'd looke like the Hulk in a business suit.

Bale has the lithe build of Neal Adams' Batman. And in many ways, the portrayl of Batman in Begins and Dark Knight is more like the 70s Batman, since he does actually show compassion which the modern Batman of the last 10 years or so rarely does.

Sandy's Batman Dead End was a nice cross between the classic look Batman and the dark gritty character he is today. More true in look and feel to today's comic Batman than all the movies with their black rubber suited armored Batman. Too bad we couldn't see more of it.

Bingo!!!!!!!! This is what I was hoping for when they announced the New movies.... Bale would have rocked looking like this........If it wasn't for the cowl and cape you wouldn't know it was Batman.

I don't think your comparision fits because you're forgetting something. These movies aren't "remaking" the character, or updating them. Batman as a character has been constantly evolving and changing since he was first written. It's not like they brought back something that hadn't been around for 30 years and updated it to make it modern. Batman has always been modern. What is modern changes with the passing of time though. The Batman of the 60's TV show fit the Batman of that time period. He was altered a bit in the 70's and that reflected in his cartoon appearances of the era. He's always changed to fit the times.

The dark gritty Batman in todays movies isn't an updated version of the 60's Batman. He's an adaptation of the character that has been in comics in this dark gritty form for over 20 years.

But there is a happy medium that unfortunatly Hollywood doesn't choose to pursue, and one which I forgot when thinking about those that played Batman.

I like 'em both. The '89 Batmobile was built like a tank but still was undeniably the Batmobile.

The thing in the new movies is NOT a Batmobile. My kids picked one up at a yard sale and I hate the thing. lol.

Keaton was the best Batman in costume,sucked as Bruce(Bruce should be a good looking dude)
Kilmer was the worse one
Clooney the best looking Bruce
Bale the best all around Batman (Total Package)

Just saw it again today. Unlike most second viewings I didn't really catch anything I missed the first time, which says a lot about how riveted I was to the screen.

Slight SPOILERS ahead. If you haven't seen the movie, look away.

On Bales' voice; the only time I felt it sounded forced, was at the end, when the Joker is hanging upside down, and they are having their final exchange. BUT, Batman had spent the last 5 minutes getting beaten by the Joker, and having a large metal object on his throat. In between sentences he winced in pain and held his side, plus he was YELLING at the Joker who was hanging outside the building. This is the only time the "growl" sounded forced to me, and it's because he would be yelling and having to project more at this point. To me, that's just good acting.

Hector...in that Picture You posted, Keaton(5' 7")...is standing on a Box, just so Batman doesn't look shorter than the Joker!

The funny part is that he STILL looks shorter, lol.
