That was a career killer. But I don't think you had to compete with the Beatles to be an entertainer back then. Conway Twitty for example had hits and was famous for over 30 years before and after the Beatles.

I’m not going to hate on Country music, because I like some singers/songs myself…but yeah…Country is basically just national, whereas Rock is worldwide.
