I'm conspiring to buy one myself, just so I can reduce my gas expense. I've never ridden one in my life, but I'm willing to learn and risk injury just so I can lessen the number of trips to the pump. All I have to do now is find the right scooter. I'm already set to make a down payment for half to put one on layaway.

Go for it. Before you invest in a scooter look for a Beginners Riders Class (BRC) in your area. They provide you the bike helmet etc... and in 3 days you learn to ride. In TN this also qualifies you for your license, and you get a big break on your insurance too.

Also if you get on the bike and hate it, your only out a few bucks vs buying a bike and being stuck with it.
