7 years old? I'm old school, so I'd probably be scared to show someone that young anything much worse than Abbott and Costello versus any one of the Universal Monsters. I saw Jaws when I was 10 or so and I still have trouble swimming in ocean water I can't see more than 10 yards ahead of me.

I think it really depends on your child. I was thinking maybe some Goosebumps episodes would be a good starting point.
My youngest watched Jaws when he was 6 and loved it. I really didn't want to play it for him but my wife thought it would be ok.
I really haven't gone up the scale from there. Even though he wasn't scared by Jaws, he does have a vivid imagination and is morbidly scared of going to our rec. room in the basement by himself and will even take some of his action figures and turn them so their faces are not looking at him before he goes to bed."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
