The Dark Knight - I got to see it today

I won't go into any spoilers or anything like that, but I will say it is the best super hero movie I have ever seen. The movie is grounded in realism so in many ways it feels as much like a crime drama as it does a comic book movie. Bale, Oldman, and Eckhart are all great, but Heath Ledger owns every scene he's in. He plays The Joker just as I have always thought of him; creepy, funny, and absolutely insane. I refuse to go into any more specifics because I don't want to give anything away, though I will say The Joker does a nifty pencil trick. The last movies that really blew me away like this were The Departed and Children of Men. Unfortunately, I'm a little too tired after working all day to formulate a review worthy of this film.

    I'M SOOOOOOOOOOO THERE!!!!!!

That's what's great about Nolan's Batman, realism...like you said, it feels more like a crime drama than a comic book film.

I knew Ledger was going to steal the show...I just knew it.

None of Ledger's best scenes or lines are in the trailers.

I downloaded a trailer from XBox live and there was a neat bit involving the goons he had hired for a robbery, and were supposed to split the takings with him.

Hopefully it won't stink like that Gotham Knights animated cartoon. Boy did that video rot. I can't wait to see this though.

Chris Nolan had nothing to do with that DVD.

Awesome news. I can't wait. I really liked the first one of this series, and I am sure it won't disappoint.

I have been waiting....so after viewing it, do you think Heath Ledger should win an Academy Award for this?

Absolutely no desire to see this movie. Truly sad. I think I'm just too attached to Batman to look at it without picking it apart. He looks wrong, Joker looks wrong. (makeup???***???) I just can't get past that.

I had a whole rant typed out and deleted it so's not to put a damper on others' enjoyment of the movie. I honestly hope you all have the best movie experience of your lives. Seriously.

Wow, I thought that CHILDREN OF MEN was an absolutely fantastic film (and THE DEPARTED, while nothing original, was a decent film).

The more I hear about THE DARK KNIGHT, the more I want to see it. I can't wait.

Ledger will get nominated, but it's early to tell if he'll win. I think he should win, though. Not because of his death, he's just created one of the all time great screen villains. And thanks to cjefferys for the Children of Men backup. I'm amazed how many people don't like this movie. It's a masterpiece. As for The Departed, it was the acting and the dialog that did it for me. It reminded of a great old movie, where the writing and cast match each other, only with a lot more cursing.
