Godfather-3 opinions ???

Just watched Godfather-3 again.

The FIRST and ONLY Godfather movie I've watched new in the cinema at the time.

Was majorly let down for many reasons including and especially the lack of Robert Duvall.

Heard, Duvall was replaced (with stiff/wooden George Hamilton) because Duvall demanded the same paycheck as Al Pacino …

C'mon Really ? trying to stiff Robert Duvall in what would be the ultimate cash-grab movie of the late 1980's ???

Casting of Sofia Coppola …

I love Sofia Coppola !!!

She seems genuinely oblivious to what her relationship with Garcia might do to the family.

Finally, if Godfather-3 had WAY less boring OPERA music-crap it could have been accepted much better by the general crowd.

When Michael, as an old man, alone finally dies in his Lake Tahoe easy-chair I can't think everything was not only his doing, but the studios doing too …

Liked it but didn’t love it like 1&2.
Too bad Robert Duvall wasn’t in it. And I had no problem with Sofia Coppola like a lot of critics did!
The story was really good too. Kinda creepy when you really think about it.
I need to watch it again, been awhile. Maybe I’ll watch the newer cut that came out, but I read the original cut is better.

I totally agree with all the above, making it both cursed and blessed.
Ultimately it was disappointing because it couldn’t match the other films. In itself an impossible feat.
If you haven’t, view the new cut that recently came out. Gives a different spin on it.

I saw it in the theater with my Mother and we both hated it. It does not exist in my Godfather world; I stop at Godfather II, which was a perfect movie, IMO.

Maybe I should watch it again, but usually when the movie comes on TV, I rarely see them show III.

Sofia Coppola's ending scene was just bad. The cherry on top of what I thought was an awful movie.

I think Sofia Coppola was PERECTLY cast as the "babe in the woods" Corleone's daughter character …

Imagine the studios original wish-list as Michael Corleone's beloved daughter … Julia Roberts, Winona Ryder and Madonna.

YES, big names … but would any of them have been believable ?

i have never seen the whole movie. and I have it on disc, have just never made it through the whole movie

I liked Godfather III just fine, but it can't compare to the first two films. The Death on Michael Corleone version improves things somewhat, though.

Also, Godfather III had Bridget Fonda in a small role - and I loves me some Bridget Fonda, so it has that going for it. Which is nice.

I didn’t like it at first, but it has grown on me over the years.

I do accept The Godfather 3 as canon.

I agree with Mike, Sofia Coppola was perfectly cast. The other bigger names he mentioned would’ve not been believable.

Not to mention Andy García as the hot-headed Sonny Jr.

I'd watched a part-4 with him as the head of the family in a second.

I think it’s a good movie that pales in comparison to the first two great movies. I think Sofia Coppola is pretty bad in it, though. She is not good at emoting, but is decent at average dialogue.

Whether intentional or just a happy accident Sofia Coppola's "wooden" performance is PERFECT for a sheltered gilded cage girl who probably every boy she liked was deemed not good enough for her.

Bridget Fonda or Madonna could never pull off that display of innocence.
