Child of the 70s, Teen of the 80s

What popular fashion trends of the 80s did you fall victim to?

I was a kid in the 70s but teenagerdom hit in the 80s. I became fashion conscious (to an extent). I ultimately, settled into a Mod look by senior year but I definitely went through several of these trends of the early 80s-

-Those round sunglasses with blinders. This actually me going through a skater phase.

    -Ocean Pacific corduroy shorts

    -Vans (still wear them)

-yes, I had a Members Only Jacket

I can't find a picture of my beloved Pier Connection shirts with its epaulets and strips in the sleeve you can wrap around rolled up sleeves. this one is close

I will never give up my Scrunchies.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I think I had the same OP shorts and lots of Lightning Bolt shirts.

Anybody remember when green US Army heavy shirts, worn unbuttoned with a T-shirt underneath and jeans was the THING ?

That was my high school uniform for 4 years

Nowadays they'd probably convict me of stolen valor cause it a had a Sgt patch on the arm

I was kind of doing that Alex Keaton thing but with a bow tie. In college I was a little more dandefied and occasionally wore an ascot, I still have a large collection of them.

I had Member's Only jackets for years lol.

Same boat. Wore OP, Bolt, Stubbies pants and shorts purchased at Miller's Oupost. Wore Vans and still do but custom now. Had a Members Only jacket with Levi's 501 jeans and wore them with Sperry Topsiders or KSwiss and polo shirts, LaCoste or LeTigre. Still wear Kswiss and polos(Psycho Bunny). Wore epaulet dress shirts because that look was in and purchased at Chess King. Went to the malls on weekends to hang out. Go to arcade or to Malibu Grand Prix. Great times.

I dressed like that. In the summer I wore it without a shirt underneath and the sleeves rolled up, and cutoff shorts.

Wow! An ascot?! I LOVE it!! I remember thinking how ballsy I was for wearing 60s Mod gear. (vintage skinny ties, white buckskins, green army trench coat) You rocked! I think the ascot, however, was less of an Alex P Keaton thing than a Thurston Howell, III, thing. PLEASE post pics if you have any.

These days, I buy Vans a 1/2 size too big and put insoles in them for just that reason. Plus it helps when I'm skating.

I briefly rocked the army shirt look. I think it belonged to one of my uncles, and not my Dad, oddly enough.

I wore a black denim jacket that faded over the years to white and was literally falling apart at the seams. In college I got a blue denim jacket...and still wear it.

                            Fun thread!

I hit 13 in '76, so for me in the 70's, it was mostly elephant bell bottomed Levi cords (black, white, maroon, dark blue, light blue, dark green & brown) with button down long-sleeved patterned shirts (paisley, medallion, micro plaid, etc). By late 70's, still with the cords, but white T's under flannel shirts, under zippered hoodies.

By the time the 80's kicked in I was still wearing the cords (mostly white) but with long-sleeved velour shirts or long-sleeved OP collared shirts. (I did have that exact pair of blue OP shorts you have posted, but I only wore them to swim in). Mid-80's I switched to 501 button fly Levi's, colored T's & flannel shirts or button down solid colored shirts.

Late 80's through mid 90's, white crew neck T's with black or blue jeans. Mid 90's thru today, Levi's with solid colored crew neck T's (& flannel shirts when it drops below 60, & hoodie below 50).

(Dress shirt, tie & slacks for work and shirt/slacks for occasions of course)

Just had a nutty fashion based memory …

Back in the 70's my Ma brought me home a T-shirt that was on sale at my local Grants (soon to become K-Mart)

It was a Grateful Dead, Shakedown Street promo T

T-shirt pic was a cartoonish pimp guy with a zoot suit twirling a pocket watch

From the first day I wore it to school I was the coolest guy EVER !!!

Hmmmmm, "who are these Grateful Dead and why does their shirt demand worship ?"
