    Mounted my HD TV Finally

I moved into my new house back in April but had to work a turnaround at work for nearly 50 days straight, so finally getting around to getting it the way I like.

I mounted my 40" Sony Bravia over the fireplace in my den this weekend. The mantel is too small for the cable box, so I had to run new cable wire, power wire, and HDMI cable from where the TV is mounted now to below the chair in the picture. Luckily the fireplace is a gas log fireplace, so there is no chimney and it is all hollow behind the TV. There was no outlet behind the chair either, so I had to piggy back off the outlet behind the TV and put on back there as well.

Anyone else mount their own flatscreen TV? It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be:

Other pictures of the house (WIP):

I told my wife to do one room at a time. The picture of the living room and the blue couches, it will be the last room (the dining room is apart of this room). It will be the most costly. The blue couches are going away. Notice all the fabic books on the table in front of the blue couch? Curtains will also cost me an arm and a leg.

          LOOKS VERY NICE!

I have three mounted like that, including one over the fireplace like you.

I'm catching flak from the guys at work about that one!!

I forgot about "my room". It will be the last to be furnished. The jersey will still be on display up there, along with the other jersey I bought from last years team.

This is a photo of our first house, which we used for the flyers to advertise the sale of the house. We kind of hid the wires through the mantle of the fireplace (we put wood on top of the original mantle and flanked it with more wood to hide the brick). My husband did a swell job. The TV weighted about 95 pounds.

Where we live now, we had the builders preinstall all of the wiring. All we had to do was put up the TV bracket and plug and play with some minor tweaks.

i've always wondered if mounting a tv above a fireplace did anything to the tv after a while with the heat and what not
nice mounting job and awesome tub too

Looks good. I would just get a white cord hidder strip and stick to the bottom of the base board and run the cable through it to the receiver.

I know it's the popular thing these days to hang the TV above the fireplace like it's a painting or something , but I'm just curious, does it seem a bit high for comfortable viewing or does it seem ok? I'm used to having a TV at eye level when sitting down (we have a 60" Sony SXRD that's on a stand about 2 feet off the floor), so I'd be worried about getting a sore neck from watching a TV that's so much above eye level, especially under extended viewing. Just in case I want to attempt this with a TV one day.

The cool thing about having it mounted is that the TV does not eat up floor space anymore. I don't notice that it's any higher than what I was used to. Let's just say that if that's what you're stuck with you will learn to live with it.

My TV is tilted down about 10 deg, so the viewing is not bad at all. For the past two months, it sat on the other mantel in the other picture with the blue couches. It sat level and WAS a pain in the neck to watch because I had nothing else to sit it on.
