    Swan wrangling

At Bok Tower Gardens, we usually keep two swans on the water in the reflection pool. We had to replace the swan we lost last year to an animal attack, and were waiting for the mating cycle to run down in our other swan before trying to find a new one. Its really hard to find 1 swan, usually they are sold in pairs. We keep two males, so they don't breed, as a pair with signets are extremely aggressive and defensive of the offspring. I found a source for swans in Illinois, and we bought one and had it mailed here. Right out of the box, he ran. Twice we had to hunt him down, the second time was at the opposite end of the gardens. So, after two days of fighting his running abilities, we had to put up a temporary swan containment field. I was in the water putting up the aquatic end of the fence. The water is about neck deep. No gators or sharks, tho.
Here are some pics of the two swans antagonizing each other. Its like two male betta fish right now. Old gigantor swan is outside the fence, the newbie is inside.

Looks like a fun place to work. Throw in a couple 18ft crocs and stock it with Perch. Done.

^^ No leeches, just fish, crawdads, snakes and turtles. And one blue heron that usually hangs out there if the swans don't run him off. A few weeks ago, before we got the new bird, the old mean one ran a turkey vulture off the island.
