As the MM is abuzz on the subject of film remakes;
I just found this... Holy God, who thought this would be a good idea??

The Day the Earth Stood Still is a 2008 science fiction film, a remake of the 1951 film of the same name. Directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, the film updates the Cold War themes of nuclear warfare, to the more contemporary concerns of man against nature,[1] as well as their generally violent nature against one another.[2]

Seriously... I can't even wrap my mind around this. A remake of a genuine classic is bad enough, but to cast Reeves? Sweet whispering Jesus! Unthinkable!
Keanu Reeves doesn't have the acting chops to play Gort, let alone Klaatu.

Sad really that Hollywood must be running out of ideas. I dread the day when someone thinks it's a great idea to redo something like Plan 9 From Outer Space. You know some dope out there is thinking it.

A friend of mine thinks Gort's gonna be a hot female android now. I think a super-busy Geiger-esque collection of tubes and pipework. Either way, I think I just saved $10.50.

They asked me to make some set pieces for them, I forgot to call them back.

I think the original is a tad slow but I honestly don't see them improving the movie nowadays...
