Great subject and glad to hear that you are transferring your vinyls to CD.

I have a 100 or more LP's sitting in storage in my basement. Most are in NM condition. I just recently purchased a few LP frames to display some of my favorite albums as wall art including "Charlie Brown Christmas" Beatles "Sgt. Pepper" and Lynyrd Skynyrd "2nd Helping". I know I have some really collectible albums there but haven't had the time or heart to sell them to someone who would put them to better use. I remember selling some Iron Maiden picture discs about 10 years ago on Ebay to someone in Italy and they sold for what seemed like a lot of money $150+ for one. I need to go back and see what I have since I have an ecclectic collection with some albums that were really hard to find back in the day when they were easily attainable.

I used to drive out of my way to a record shop that sold albums that you just could not find anywhere. Import albums, picture discs, all kinds of things that were impossible to find. I was always really particular about playing them and assuming that nothing has happened to them from storage, they should be in great shape. I really need to go through them and see if I have anything that would be interesting to a collector.

      Funny story about remasters-

The Split Enz back catalog, which up until recently was only out on great sounding vinyl or muddy CD, got a remaster treatment and was released again in the last year or so (I'm assuming that most music nerds will know who they are, so this is an appropriate story). They were in fact remixed and remastered by the folks who know what they were supposed to sound like, and with CD presentation in mind, so they sound as good as the records. I hesitate to say better because there's the "warmth" factor that LPs have, but they do sound great.

Here's the funny part- all the remixing and remastering was overseen by Eddie Rayner, who was their piano/keyboard guy-- and lo and behold, EVERY keyboard track on EVERY song seems like it's mixed juuust a little closer to the front!

I'd collect more LPs than I have but most everyone that I'd be interested in is way out of my price range so I buy the CDs...

I love me some vinyl! The only problem is storing and moving them. I have sold off major parts of my record collection 3 times in the past 15 or so years just to avoid the move factor.
The fact that I live in a 2nd floor apartment is one of the only things that keeps my record collecting tolerable. When I find something I want I have to say, for example "Do I want this 12 inch LP of great speeches and sound effects from WWI so much, that I am willing to commit to moving it eventually?" Well, the answer to that one was yes, but still... I try, and have said no on several occasions.

I'm not a hardcore vinyl collector these days but I still pick up certain pieces now and then when I can. I just got back from playing a huge hard rock/metal festival in Belgium and they had a market set up there that was massive, and lots of cool vintage vinyl for sale. I had to really restrain myself from going bonkers in there, lol. I can't really afford any of the high end rarities these days, but I just enjoy shopping for stuff and I prefer to listen to old albums on vinyl as opposed to cd, when I can.

I'd love to hear those albums like "Revolver" recorded onto cd from the vinyl, I don't doubt that it sounds better than the original cd release. The problem with many of those cds is that the music was recorded and mixed specifically to sound a certain way on vinyl, and it just doesn't translate onto cd that well sometimes. They do manage to improve the situation sometimes with remix/remasters, but some music just sounds better on vinyl, at least to my ears.
