Definitely Planet of the Apes (1968) is better in the movie than the book. I'm glad that the movie makers didn't go for the futuristic look when they made that movie. Those who look outside dream. Those who look within awake.
Samples of my work are found here: Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness
To do list:
1:6 boots for Mathilda, 1:1 Romulan Commander outfit, Ursus helmet; Cornelius appliance
1:9 scale ape's new suit for Cornelius;Comment

I am going to assume however that the upcoming film treatment of Radio Free Albemuth will be terrible, as the book is in itself a weird and paranoid version of his own far superior Valis.
Digressions aside, I understand why people do not care for Androids. It is classic PK Dick at his best, and that's not for everyone.Comment

Welllll, I'm a pretty hardcore PK Dick fan. I like the movie more than the book. Although in truth I consider Bladerunner "inspired by" rather than "based on" Androids. He did also and was pleased with the direction of the film (see book "The Shifting Realities of Philip K. Dick")

Valis is by far my fave. A Schizo/Gnostic/Mind Bender. Horselover Fat!Comment

Also my fave. I try to reread Valis/Divine Invasion/Transmigration trilogy every year. Keeps me grounded.Comment

Somewhere in Time is much better than the novel Bid Time Return. You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

Yeah...the Voice over really gives it that Phillip Marlow/Sam Spade "Film Noir" kinda feel. As far as Deckard being a Replicant....I don't like it(I've never got thru more than 5 Minutes of the Directors Cuit). Part of the story is that Deckard had quit, and didn't want kill Them anymore. At the end of the Movie, He realizes that They've become just like Us...with feelings & emotions...and the desire to live. And He's a Human...who simpathize's with them.sigpicComment

Honestly, I don't really recall reading a book that I thought was better in movie format but most of the books I read never become movies.
One book that I really enjoyed was John Adams and thought the HBO miniseries was an excellent representation of the book. Other than that, I'm having a hard time thinking of another one."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

i enjoyed the Ghost World movie much more than Clowes' original GN.
i know Clowes is brilliant and all, but i just find his tone so cool and detached, its always been hard for me to "enjoy" his work. but i didn't have that problem with the movie.
