Who here is laid off right now?

Just curious to see a show of hands as to whom is currently laid off or out of work right now. I have been for the last three weeks(two, technically as one was my vacation time) and am supposed to go back Monday. My place of employment has been around for 25 years(give or take a year or two) without layoffs. Until the last year. Gotta love the economy!

I used to play that game about five years ago with a company I worked at. I was laid off one week and back on for four or five months. One day after they decided to move their business to West Virgina, I jumped onto an opportunity and went back to school and got some computer degrees and opened up my own computer repair place. Now I do not have to worry about being laid off. I will no longer work for anyone again. I am better being my own boss. I make my own hours..etc.

      Vegas

Damn guys that sucks! Sorry to hear that. While i'm not crazy about living in Las Vegas i have to say that one positive is that the job market is very strong here, very strong economy here. Plenty of jobs available, not all top pay, but enought to get by and then some. In the next 2 years about 10,000 jobs will be made available due to the construction of 3 new hotels/casinos and the expansion of the Hard Rock Hotel.

Im sorry about the loss. I was out of a job for a year and went back to school. Reminds me of a Chinese proverb that says something to the effect of- crisis is a chance for opportunity.

sad to hear folks are out of work and struggling

the family business i work in is on its last legs too, its going 100 years and my great grandfather started the business going, we had 12 fleet of trucks and a load of hands on job, now its just me and my uncle, its been this way the last 15-20 years, now its half days, plenty of perks and crap pay

but thats why i started djing at 15 in a nightclub and im still there 20 years on, and buying and selling toys

so infact i have 3 lines of work and im still struggling

the credit crunch has a tight grip on us here un the uk, and i have a new addition tothe family coming in a few weeks

so while i have 3 jobs and finding it hard i can sympathise with you guys who are out of work

            wishing you better luck

              Hmmmm....

TECHNICLY I've been laid off for the last two years. Where I work they lay off full timers and make them bump into part time. My department has always had a shortage of staff, so we still get shifts but it's not reliable.

I was laid off a year and a half ago. They gave me a few months notice though, so I had a new job lined up and actually left a few weeks early. I lucked out, the old employer was very honest and gave me plenty of notice and I love the new job too.

So far I have dodged the last 4 rounds of layoffs, at my company.

My husband is days, maybe weeks away from a lay-off. The store he works at has been in the toilet for a while, and an armed robbery here awhile back kind of sealed the deal.

im not(but that would be funny, since i work at home, huh?)...but seriously, my brother worked at the same place for about 15-17 years or so and they ended up closing down their business and moving to california(just this past may)...so they basically laid off/fired 300-400 people or more...kinda sucked for my bro...wife and 3 kids....dont know what he is going to do now....

Luckily Houston has not been hard hit economically. Jobs are still readily available. I'm also lucky that I am in a job with no shortage of customers. When I was a chef we went on strike once and life was very tough so I can sympathize with you guys.
