The Dukes of Hazzard: Both the 2005 and 2007 versions. The TV series was excellent and both flicks made a mockery of what the series stood for. Good, clean, family fun. At least with the series, you and your kids can watch that together. Can't say the same for those crappy remakes.
    Cheers.

      I disgree with these choices.

For 1.) I Am Legend...was perhaps better than the the Omega Man.

      2.)The Invasion-was well done.

3.)Godzilla (U.S.Remake)...well geez...it's not hard to beat a Guy in a Rubber suit! Plus the the end sceen on the Bridge...reminded Me of the old Monster Movies. And in the very beginging of the Movie...they give a logical reason for His exsistance.

4.)War of the Worlds-FINALLY! We got to see the Tripods as H.G.Well designed Them!

Yeah,... I can't get into any of that Rubber Suit BS. That crap looked worse than any of the Power Ranger's Monsters.

I forgot all about Get Carter, what a great film the original is (except when Michael Caine attempts to run) that blows the remake away on every level.

Ok I am Legend was still a looong way from the book and that's why I hated it (at least the Omega Man changed the title)
The Invasion was well done but the original and the '70's remake were better IMO
                Godzilla....fair point
War of the Worlds...Still nothing like the book...yes there were tripods...but the aliens coming out of the ground to man them!!!! Also it NEEDS to be set in ENGLAND at the END of the 19th century to be anything like the book...plus the smarmy, lovey dovey happy Spielberg ending got my goat (yes i know the book reunites the narrator and his girl). I know the 1953 film was not like the book either but I way preffered that version....you never (again IMO) felt the martians were ever going to be the true menace that they were in the book...you never lost hope that the lead character was going to lose his loved ones...I thought it was very poor indeed.
ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF IT British by birth....English by the grace of God. Yes Jamie...it is big isn't it....

                  1. Anything "re-imagined." Especially anything "re-imagined" by Tim Burton(see Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Batman). Just call it a remake already. And if your story is significantly different, then don't try to cash in on an established name.

                  2. Godzilla 2000. I really wanted to like this one. I've always thought the rubber monster suit was ludicrous in the originals. And here was the effects technology to finally make it work. Unfortunately two things stood in the way of this film being any good; Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. How badly do they suck? I don't even have the space to count it here.

                  3. Psycho. Gus Van Sant, not Brian DePalma is to blame for this horrible exercise in self indulgence.

                  4. Red Dragon. For all of it's '80's cheesiness(ahh ahh ah heartbeat!), Michael Mann's Manhunter is vastly superior to Brett Ratner's pitiful attempt to work Anthony Hopkins into all the Hannibal Lecter stories.

                  5. The Shining. Stanley Kubrick's original scared the living **** outta me as a kid. Then I read Stephen King's book and was highly annoyed that Kubrick strayed so far from the original story. Enter Mick Garris. Garris employed spot on casting, use of the hotel that inspired King, and a script by the author himself to come up with a forgettable and seemingly unecessary version of the story. This is what made me realize how ridiculous it is to say "the book was better" in reference to a movie. In a book you are praised for spending an entire chapter discussing the evil of a lightswitch. In film you are praised for establishing somehting in the briefest amount of time possible. It is a case of apples and 4 wheel drives.

                  6. The Stepford Wives. I have an irrational attraction to Nicole Kidman. There I said it. I don't know why but I find her rather hypnotic. Except when it comes to this piece of crap. Normally I love Frank Oz as well, but there was no salvaging this movie.

                  7. The Invasion. See above. Wanted to like it, but was incredibly bored throughout the entire film.

                  8. Ultraviolet. I loved Kurt Wimmers previous film Equilibrium and was looking forward to his take on what I thought was going to be a remake of a british television series called Ultraviolet. This film is essentially a remake of the John Cassavetes film Gloria. Except with vampires. Gloria. With vampires. Do I really need to keep going here?

                  9. Village of the Damned. I will defend John Carpenter as a film maker til my dying day. Or at least I would have. Until he made this.

                  10. Walking Tall. Painful. The original had some sort of '70's Grindhouse style charm, but this? Did no one tell Dwayne Johnson what he was doing here?

                  11. Willard. I never again need to see Crispin Glover being weird just for the sake of being weird. NEVER!

                  12. Lake House. Remake of a Korean film that I admittedly did not see, but if it is as lacking in logic, dialogue, decent scripting, good acting, or capable direction as this I really don't want to see it.

                  13. Last Man Standing. I have to admit that I actually kind of enjoyed this one. But when you are trying to remake Yojimbo and Fistfull of Dollars, you're gonna come up short. Sorry Walter Hill

                  14. The Longest Yard. The original benefitted from the irresistable charm of a young Burt Reynolds. Burt is in this one, too, but he forgot to bring his charm this time. And Adam Sandlers presence doesn't help.

                  15. Meet Joe Black. First it was claimed that this wasn't a remake of Death Takes A Holiday. Then it was. Either way, it is a gawdawful film that even the presence of my sweet beloved Claire Forlani can't help save. You could stare at a still photo of Brad Pitt for 3 hours and get the same effect.

                  16. Mighty Joe Young. Charlize Theron and a giant monkey. What could possibly go wrong here? Well, Charlize was clothed through the entire film. Oh, and it really sucked.

                  17. Never Say Never Again. I remember seeing this in the theater when I was a kid and thinking it couldn't get any cooler that Connery back as Bond. Saw it a couple of years ago and realizing "it's Thunderball. It's a crappy remake of Thunderball with better special effects." At least they coulda had Fatima and Domino make out with each other at some point.

                  18. Oscar. Remake of a french film that actually wasn't all that bad. But you still have watch Sylvester Stallone...I dunno, I guess he calls it "acting". Ornella Muti and Marisa Tomei provide some nice eye candy and John Landis ably directs, but you still gotta get past Stallone. Ugh

                  19. Poseidon. The Poseidon Adventure always had me on the edge of my seat as a kid. This had me asleep halfway through it. Just a boring, boring film.

                  20. Bedazzled. The original had some rather charming messages about being yourself. The remake had Liz Hurley in 19 different sexy outfits. hmm...maybe some of these reamkes aren't so bad after all.
Of all the souls I have encountered his was the most...human.

One of the worst remakes for sure, has got to be ; Last Man Standing(bruce Willis).
                    I liked this movie way better the first time when it was called ;
Fistfull of Dollars(Eastwood). You can not tell me this isn't the same script???
I also agree that dukes of hazzard and lost in space were also craptastical.
I did like I am legend and Planet of the apes though(sorry guys they were good).

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was okay. I'm not sure if its really "closer to the book" like everyone was saying (I haven't read the book since I was like 10 or so), but I heard they added all that business about Wonka being estranged from his dentist dad, and other than that, it seemed pretty much a straight-forward remake of the original Wilder film. So although not un-watchable, pretty pointless since the Wilder film still holds up. And the Burton flick's songs are nowhere near as infectious as the previous versions.

I watched Superman Returns again last night. You could ALMOST call it a remake of Superman:The Movie. It's more a love letter to Richard Donner and Chris Reeve, but there are so many similarities that it borders on remake. Seeing as Superman is my all-time favorite movie, I really don't mind that here, but I know the overly obvious homages put some folks off.

POTA by Burton sucked eggs. One of the few times I felt like I wanted my money back. Burton needs to stay in his own weirdoverse, or with properties that fit in it, like the upcoming Dark Shadows (I think him and Depp will do that right).

                              >I Am Legend...was perhaps better than the the Omega Man.

HAW! Maybe.... but they missed the point. The main character was the "legend;" since at the end he's SUPPOSEd to find out that HE'S the boogeyman, not the monsters he's been hunting. That's the whole point of the story and they edited it out. (Although I hear it's listed as the "controversial" ending on the disk.) There's a real good discussion of it here:

                              5 Awesome Movies Ruined By Last-Minute Changes | Cracked.com

                              >Godzilla (U.S.Remake)...well geez...it's not hard to beat a Guy in a Rubber suit!

I dunno.... Godzilla is SUPPOSED to be an unstoppable engine of destruction. In this one he dodges. Kinda takes away from the whole "unstoppable" feel.

                              >And in the very beginging of the Movie...they give a logical reason for His exsistance.

So.... a nuke mutating an iguana into a hermaphrotic giant monster is more logical than a mutant T-rex?

This one could have been a decent movie if they HADN'T called it "Godzilla."

                              >War of the Worlds-FINALLY! We got to see the Tripods as H.G.Well designed Them!

THIS was an odd one, since it was sort of a mishmosh of the book, and the 1954 movie. Most of what I didn't like about it had little to do with it being a remake. Stuff like dad and son arguing all the time; and SON being right. (He DID make it home first.) And them blowing up a tripod at the end. Sure, it's got the original "destroyed by the most insignificant of beings" end BUT they HAD to let the humans get a shot in. Futile as it was since the tripod was already dying. But they HAD to throw it in....

                              Don C.
