Do you think most actors watch themselves act ?

Do you think most actors watch themselves act on TV or movies ?

Of course they do, but none of them will admit it.

I guess it's "cool" for them to say them never watch themselves.

    What do you think ?

I don't know Mike. You know how cringe-worthy it is just hearing your voice on tape. . . imagine how much worse it must be. . .when your acting. Most I am guessing you are correct. . .but quite a few I guess would not want to seealso.

Would you watch yourself at "work" doing the day to day things? Actor/Directors would have to watch themselves sure....and those into the "art" of acting may well watch themselves to see if improvements are needed....but I think you'd have to be very vain indeed to get pleasure out of watching yourself...and I know there are more than a few of them out there...lol...saying that....if I had a small part (no jokes please) in something I loved such as Who or Star Wars...then that would be watched....A LOT!!!!...lol

They have to watch themselves...unless, I suppose, they close their eyes, stick their fingers in their ears, and make LA LA LA LA noises during the film premieres.

They say they dont watch themselves so that they can plead the fifth when it comes to critiquing their own performances.

Most actors I've seen interviewed say that can't watch themselves. I know that if I look over something published that I wrote, all I can do is spot the flaws.

              Mike---

I'm a performer---and I'll let you in on one of my secrets
regarding this kinda thing you're addressing

I run really HOT and COLD when it comes to "enjoying"
watching or listening to my "work"

              BUT

I talk a big game in the opposite direction of the artists
who say they "never watch themselves" etc.

I actually gush about how MUCH I watch and listen to myself---
rightly or not---I think that attitude exudes quite a bit of self-esteem
something I think is surely lacking on my end many times

Do I believe what these other artists are saying when they say
they don't "partake in themselves" ???

I have to say---well---I guess so.

I mean if they felt like I feel sometimes----"cringing" at something I've done
---if they feel that way ALL the time, because they are very sensitive (and modest
and not self-absorbed) then it makes sense.

I have chatted with David Soul via email. I remember him saying that he didn't even watch himself on TV when Starsky and Hutch was popular. He just now was looking back at the newly released DVD's and being kind of shocked and not even remembering some of the episodes.

I was going to say William Shatner probably watches himself and thinks he's rather good...

I remember a VHS called the Tom Baker years (yes it's Who...sry)...where they played a clip from every story TB had been in and just allowed him to comment on them.....he was surpised by a vst majority of them to the point of not even knowing what story most of them were from...but he always had something to say about someone else's acting and rarely commented on his own....he certainly came across as someone who didn't watch himself....great video too.

Wouldn't you HAVE to watch yourself, so as to improve your craft?

I think some do and some don't.

I would think being in that kind of profession, you would want to so as to continually improve your craft.

However, you can also be your own worst critic. Ever notice that some actors and actresses see clips of themselves from movies for their nominations for academies and they have a very uncomfortable look on their face as if they didn't like watching themselves?
