    is my computer haunted?

    So;

For a few months now, my computer speakers would make a buzz, and play a second or so of odd sounds. Not often, maybe once every two or three weeks.... But lately it's been making longer bits of weird noises and they're starting to sound like speech. (It sounds like an old guy conversing with someone, but I can't make out what he's saying.... yet.)

Is this something computers do, or should I call an exorcist?

Do you live in an apartment? Sounds like a baby monitor is interfering with your speakers. If you move your speakers a few feet away do you still get the interference?

Also if you leave your cell phone near the speakers you will hear weird intermittent buzzing and noises, as te cell phone talks to the tower. I can tell 2 seconds befre I get a phone call, because my speakers start to chirp.

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

My monitor at work glitches right before I get a cell phone call.

        Hmmmm....

I live in a house, big yard, no cell phone. It HAS to be interference from SOMETHING, but my computer is 12 years old, and has no external radio connection. (The modem is dial-up.) So whatever it is, it must be fairly powerful.

Weird that it seems to be getting stronger.

Is it possible that you are possibly picking up on another phone conversation through the modem?

It has been a while but I do remember a few times talking on the phone and could distinctly hear another faint conversation occurring in the background

I'll tell you what it is, it's trying to tell you that it's really tired!

That's about the oldest PC I've heard of actually still working. What make is it?

well you could always take a picture of the monitor when your computer is off. I hear that you can see faces in the picture this way if your PC is Haunted.

Or you could be just picking up some stray RF (Radio Frequency)
Thanks to Technology I can be the Hermit that I am today.

you could try sending a ATM0 to your modem to turn off the speaker

Is it possible that someones satillite radio is interfering? If mine is on in my car I can pick it up in the house on the radio. Who knows, there is so much crap going thru the airwaves nowadays, it could be anything.

But the supernatural theory is more exciting, so keep an eye on your family members behavior, like head spinning, projectile vomiting mass quantities of ectoplasm, and speaking in tongues. Maybe purchase some incense, and try re-arranging the room to improve the Feng-shui. Bundles of dried sage are supposed to ward off evil spirits and they smell nice too. Also, I would cover the windows with heavy duty aluminium foil. If that doesn't work you may need to fasion a helmet out of foil as well. Wear it at all times.

I had an IBM computer from '96 (twelve years ago) that the same thing was happening to me. It was faint at first but then got stronger until I could hear the voices.

                              they said "Get Out!!!!!!!"

Just kiddin' but serious about the IBM thing. It turned out that the speakers themselves were picking up short wave or HAM radio. I have no idea how or why the signal seemed to grow in strength, but try covering the wires leading into the speakers with something non-conductive and see if the "voices" fade.
                              It's all good!
