That's really unfortunate because if their facing losses substantial enough to impact their return policy, that could endanger the instore business model. They might discontinue those lines that have the greatest impacts because they can't maintain a profitable margin. Everyone loses.

Figure swapping was happening back in 90's at Toy r us with Toy biz X-Men multi sets that were there returned ,and put back on shelf . Some sets were there for months and I even pointed it out to them .

What I often see are the creeps who return the figure but didn't include the BAF build-a-figure parts or switching arms for legs, even if the packaging makes it obvious something doesn't look right.

In the mid-90s my Target would write TARGET in Sharpie marker across the front of the bubble to discourage resellers.
It didn't stop anyone...the marker would come right off with Goo-B-Gone !

We collectors do embarrass ourselves sometimes. I don't blame Target for this new policy.

Wow. I had no idea that was going on. Isn't it amazing how a desirable object brings out the worst in people?

Most people are awful, they just pretend to be decent.

I've never understood why a big toy company would bother with making "rare" figures.

Even store exclusives seems to work against the logic of a company trying to sell as many figures as possible.

I remember back in the day Playmates released exclusive 9" "Data and Geordi as Holmes and Watson" sold only at Target.

This was back in the 90's when a Target on the NE Coast was rarely seen.

The closest one to me was like 60 miles away in South Jersey.

                  So I passed on them.

If Playmates didn't make these a Target Exclusive I would of snapped them up in a sec

Same with Classic Lost in Space Trendmasters stuff

I truly dislike scalpers. They do it to everything, not just toys. This year my son wanted a better video card for his computer. A decent one is not cheap, going for $300 up to 2k or so. After going to several stores and websites, I found that scalpers were buying up all of the video cards and selling them on Ebay for a markup. To combat it, stores were no longer posting when their shipments were in. In addition, they limit to one per customer. That makes sense, but I only want one and they were still sold out by 6-7am daily. I ended up having to purchase used off of a local seller. It's sad and it hurts the average person financially.

I remember reading about idiots doing the figure swap with vintage Star Wars figures. Proves most of them don't have a brain.

Sneaky collector's trick inspired by Goldfinger

When you see a rare figure you already have in the store ------ crush/smash the package

One less mint figure in the world to compete with yours
