I wish Turkey or Russia had made the final. Aside for my penchant for underdogs, I think either team would have pushed a little more wildly. Maybe not as skillfully, but it would have made the match interesting.WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.Comment

Funny. . .but football/Soccer. . .is really more like a Religion to many in the UK and Europe (from my observations anyway, particularly my long time Scottish friends). They live it and breath it. . .and ready to fight about it. . .hence the football violence and hooliganism that sometimes . . .regrettably can be associated with it. It seems to go far beyond just being a sport for many.Comment

Congrats Spain. It's great to see another country take top honors besides the usual suspects (Germany, Italy, and France)...I won't include Brazil or Argentina since they weren't in the UEFA championships.
I thought it was an exciting game to watch. Torres was incredible, bouncing a header off the post, then the awesome goal, followed by an almost 2nd goal under the same circumstances. A few other players like Ramos also had some great opportunities.
I think Germany only had one decent shot and that was Michael Ballack's volley shot.
Yesterday was a fun day of soccer viewing. Just prior to the UEFA championship, they televised my favorite local team D.C. United completely destroy David Beckham and L.A. Galaxy 4-1.
As I have said before, I do think interest in soccer is growing in the U.S. I know a lot of people can't stand it because the scores are generally low but if you really understand the game and can watch the game within the game, the drama is uncomparable. Even though it was only a 1-0 game, there was a lot of excitement and near goals. When I do go watch a live match, I see a lot of families and kids at games. With youth soccer being the most played sport in the U.S. today, there is a whole generation of fans growing up. When I was growing up, about the only international player that I knew was Pele.
Even my daughter at the age of 11, is familar with many international stars such as Ronaldhino, Kaka, Ronaldo, Robinho, Beckham, Michael Owen, Thierry Henry, Michael Ballack, etc. Coaches use the names to show them the various players famous moves.
I can understand how someone would find it boring though if they don't really understand the rules or can appreciate how much control these players have with a ball. It's the same with me trying to watch Nascar, golf, tennis, etc. I'm not a fan of those sports and find watching any of it on tv completely boring to me but that's because I never played any of the sports and don't understand the finer points."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Good points there....as most of us footie watching countries grow up playing the game, we can see the artistry, skill, frustration, drama, intention and tactics in the game. now that footie is being played more and more by the kids of America it won't be long before it becomes acceptable as a viewable sport over there.ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF ITBritish by birth....English by the grace of God.
