Kings Island Amusement Park Map from 1982

If any of you ever visited Kings Island near Cincinnati, OH, you may get a kick out of this. We've visted the park many times over my 45 years, but I miss the glory days when they had Hanna-Barbara Land.

My Dad brought out a bunch of old school papers of mine he managed to salvage from a flood that hit his storage building a while back. Much to my delight, this HUGE 38" x 26" map was among the pile! What a wonderful blast from the past!

Jabber Jaws stole my shoe last time I went there as a kid. I did eventually get it back.

That's the park as I remembered it! Somewhere on the main drag was a gift shop that provided my AHI Drac too!

Didn’t they film a Brady Bunch episode from Kings Island amusement park?

^Yes. Apparently while they were riding the Racer (on the map, and still there today), the camera they had mounted to film the kids' reactions came lose, and nearly killed the two Bradys in the front. I can't remember which two kids it was, but we'd be down two Bradys.

Kings Island is also the park seen on The Banana Splits Show, I think (which of course makes sense).

That's a very nicely illustrated map! Perfect for framing!

I think it was Barry Williams (Greg) who wrote about the roller coaster incident in his book. He said Robert Reed (Mike) refused to ride the roller coaster because he didn't think the camera was safely mounted, and suggested they do a test run on an empty roller coaster to be sure. Sure enough, when the roller coaster returned, the camera was gone! It would've whacked the Bradys in the face!!!

                  Congrats. What a neat find.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

                    Wonderful map!

Nothing like it has been around in a long time.

I will add, Kings Island is still a lot of fun, and the Peanuts kids land is nice as well. But I'll always miss Hanna-Barbara land, particularly the "Enchanted Voyage" boat ride with HB themed animatronics. In the mid-80s it was replaced by a Smurf ride. I enjoyed that, but still missed Scooby, Yogi, etc.

Here's a pic of the figures I picked up at Kings Island probably the same year I got the map. Scooby-Doo is perfectly scaled to Megos! I wanted a Shaggy, but all they had was Scrappy.

The glass I found later but has Scooby, Fred and Wilma Flintstone, Yogi and Ranger Smith and advertises LaRosa’s pizza, the regional chain still served there. I picked up Babba Luey bank a few years ago.

Oh man, I covet that Yogi fig!
                          Ditch the Scrappy, though !

Scrappy's not even a dog. Just a guy with a glandular problem

Oh man that is so cool... I’ve got a Kings Island map from 1973. My brothers and I pour over it remembering things we used to see there.

It still has the canoe ride (like you see on that Brady Bunch episode... that’s where Jan leaves the tube with Mike’s blueprints).

I remember riding the canoe ride one time. Next year we came back and it was gone.

Yes... loved Hannah Barbara land! Can still remember that arched stairway outside that took you to the rotating loading platform. And then that blessed air conditioner when your boat finally went into the show building.

I think there was a Partridge Family episode filmed there too.

My big memory is the smell of Larosa’s Pizza on the right side of the International Street. I could go on and on about the memories from this place...

Do you remember the Lion Country Safari and the big deal that was at the time?
