    Making the Perfect Margarita

The Margarita is one of my favorite drinks. If you order one at a Bar and you see the Bartender reaching for this:

    Walk away.

If you’re thinking about making one at Home and using a Blender, unless you’re Jimmy Buffett, Don’t.

All you need to make the perfect Margarita is:
    • Tequila
    • Triple Sec
    • Grand Marnier
    • Fresh, juicy Limes
    • Agave
    • Ice
    • Shaker
    • Shot Glass
    • Coarse Salt
    • Lili Ledy Hombre Araña Sous-Bartender

Squeeze 3 large Limes into the Shaker, keeping a Lime Wedge aside. Stir in just enough Agave to where the juice is not tart nor sweet.
Take the Lime Wedge and run it across the rim of your glass, (I like to use a Short Tumbler), then set aside again.

Dip the top of glass into the Salt for a nice coating.

Add 4 shots of Tequila and 2 of Triple Sec into the Shaker.

“Vamos, no seas tacaño con el Tequila, guey.”

My Sous-Bartender is criticizing me for not using a more expensive Tequila, but for mixed drink, I don’t think it’s necessary. The Corralejo Reposado is fine for what we’re making. Now, if we were having Tequila Shots, it would be a different story.

Add Ice to the Shaker and start Shaking.

Strain into your Glass, then spoon some of the Ice from the Shaker into it, leaving some room on top.

Remove any remaining Ice from Shaker and store in the Fridge for refills.

Now, “float” some Grand Marnier on top and you just turned your Margarita into a Cadillac Margarita.

Take that Lime Wedge you had set aside, squeeze then drop it into your Glass.
    Enjoy.

    Approved! <Slurp!>

… sadly my bonsai bearss lime was cross pollinated a couple years ago after we moved and has been in recovery. Maybe this year she'll giveth the fruit of the gods again.

Yes! Love Margaritas. I like to make mine as slurpies. Won’t turn down a Margarita on the rocks though, yours look super yummy. I pretty much use most of the exact ingredients you use. I never use premium tequilas for Margaritas though, I’ll be wasting it. So no, I don’t use my Don Julio or Patrón for mixed drinks. I prefer to use Sauza Gold, it’s cheap and very smooth, perfect for Margaritas.

I had a couple of these last night...and no, I don’t use wimpy Margarita glasses, I go with man beer mugs, lol...

      What an awesome thread!

Just kidding you, I order that at work. I appreciate your advice about the tequila, I never know what kind to buy for cocktails. I love Grand Marnier, that's a nice touch.

Yeah, never use expensive premium tequila for mixed drinks. A cheap one will do. Of course if you want to sip it by itself, then yes, I highly recommend a more expensive/premium tequila.

Great photos! The Spider-Man at the bar is so awesome!

Even though I'm a white American guy with no connection to Mexico other than growing up in San Diego near the Mexican border, I love Mexico: the place, the history, the food, many of the regional cultures, and the archaeology.

I always enjoyed Cinco de Mayo celebrations, even if almost everyone I ever celebrated it with had never heard of the Battle of Puebla. But the celebrations and commercialization of Cinco de Mayo where I live have definitely become ever more muted with each passing year over the last decade. Not entirely sure why.

I've never been a big margarita guy. If offered the option in that 'zone' of drinks, I'd personally opt for straight mezcal. But my late father-in-law, who was a 1960s surfer, made the best margarita I ever had - without any mix. Your photos above spurred me to reflect happily on his memory just now: thank you!

Wow I can't remember the last time I had one, probably the 1990s. The wife is a fan, however, and enjoys her mixology.

I've given up drinking permanently, but I used to REALLY enjoy a good margarita. Unsalted rim, sour as hell, and damn near a slush.
