    Shows like Swingtown bug me

Shows about swinging couples doesn't strike me as good prime time network TV.

    1. It's not good for kids
    2. Even though today TV is looser then ever, you still have to water down the sex compared to an R or X rated movie (where this stuff really belongs)

In other words, it's too dirty for TV and too clean for it's subject matter, all at the same time.

I don't either but the whole concept of the show bugs me enough to talk about it anyway.

It's like Network Today is trying to grab you in the same way porno does. Then, you don't get the porn. And I can't imagine any swingers that would be interesting enough to watch week after week.

I personally think NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX are the anti-Christs'.

I'm have a DVD library of classic TV too. I hate being one of those "They don't make them like they used to..." guys but that's the way it is.

I agree the show suffers from being on CBS and not being more explicit. It's also a little too fakey. I'm a huge fan of Mad Men on AMC, which is not explicit either, but is adult and super smart. They really capture an era with realism and style, I wish Swingtown were more like that show.

              MadMen Return July 27th! Wahoo!

I like the concept of the show, I think it'd be better on Showtime or something like that than network tv. As for it not being good for kids, I agree that it's not a show I'd want kids to see, but honestly I think a huge majority of television isn't good for kids these days. I'm much more concerned about the violence on television than the sexual content. I think the concept of "Swingtown" will probably go over alot of kids' heads and seem too sophisticated/adult for them to care much. Whereas the shows like Dexter (which I really like alot, I'm not knocking the show itself) or the other cop dramas have that "cool" serial killer/slasher/violence-thing that kids might be a bit more drawn towards.

Well, they do schedule it at 10pm on Thursdays. Hardly kiddie time. It's parent's job to make sure their kids aren't watching adult content shows at 10pm.

I guess someone noticed that there was a ginormous void for a nighttime soap opera. I only watch a few favorites on network tv. There are a few shows I'm gonna have to bail on because of how graphic they are. I'm just burnt on CSI and Criminal Minds. I'm looking forward to Chuck, 24, NCIS, maybe Heroes and Smallville. I'm probably going to build up my box set library, though.

I don't want it to be for kids but admit I find the whole thing kind of tame in the sex department. It's tame for network TV, probably why we're watching it in the summer.

I dunno, I was kinda glad when they cut away from the big swinger moment. It was a little cringe-inducing. That's the problem with the whole swinger thing, it's just uncomfortable and fraught with...ickyness.

Still, for sets and costumes, it's fun to watch.

The whole CSI thing unsettles me. They do some seriously sick stuff on that show and it's number one in all it's various incarnations.

I haven't watched network TV in so long, before this thread I never even heard of the show before.

Network television still makes new shows ?
