Hulk takes in $54.5 million it's opening weekend

Not a bad figure, but one that certainly points to the next weekend as the key indicator as to where this film's fate lies with the box office Gods. If good word of mouth is sufficient, then the second weekend take should be less than 50%. Remember Ang Lee's Hulk dropped a record 68% in 2003 and finished with a final gross of $132 million after opening with an impressive $62 million. The Incredible Hulk cost $150 million to produce, but this time Marvel is at the helm and stands to reap all of the rewards on a global scale. If this film can develop some legs it has a significant chance to be a hit, but it all depends on whether the buying public, outside of comic circles, can put the Ang Lee debacle behind them. Should be interesting to watch.

I saw it today, and everyone that came out of the theater seemed pretty please. I heard several say how it was "much better" than the first one. If they go and spread the word, I think it will be a respectable hit.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The son liked it better than Iron Man! I didn't, but I'd rank it up in the top 5 Marvel movies. Good solid movie with a good story and great acting.

It'll hold up better than the first, but still have a roughly 50% drop off. People definitely like it better than the original. As a matter of fact, this might have opened better had people not disliked the first so much.

Quoted for truth, I think. I know alot of people that I've talked to are skeptical and always mention how bad the last one was, etc. I was pretty skeptical too, because I wasn't blown away by the trailers and commercials for the new film, but I've talked to a few people with similar tastes as mine who enjoyed it so I have less trepidation towards it now. But I planned to see it either way, regardless of what others said.

Just wondering - I picked up the Season Two Box Set with the movie ticket inside - anybody else do that? Were you able to use it? I'm gonna try it tomorrow night.

Then, I might go pick up Seasons Three and Four for a repeat...

Is there a big film coming out this weekend coming up? I think a lot didn't watch it think it was crap like the 1st one and because a lot watched the Happening,if nothing good comes up this week.I think many will watch it,maybe not the same but I don't think a 50% drop, maybe 20% at most

This movie will end up doing way better on Dvd. Everyone who is holding out because of the last one will either rent it or buy it. This movie clearly makes my all time top ten superhero movie

The Studio stated that they were pleased with these results because it had the first film working against it. It didn't hurt that M. Night's new movie got terrible reviews either.

Next weekend Get Smart and Mike Meyer's new film will going head to head, so the Hulk will likely be third.

The new Mike Meyer film looks horrendous. Hulk smash.

It's the Austin Powers formula with a new look but sadly no Jay Roach.

I was thinking Get Smart #1, Hulk #2, Love Guru #3. Guru looks to me like a BIG flop for Myers...at this point, unless he can get the "mojo" back he should stick to voice-overs.
