Hi All I have been a member here for a few yrs although I have not posted much in the past yr I have lurked quite a bit .
I am based in the UK ans have collected various things over the years Toys and Art being my main interests.
Some of you may remember me as being the lady who brought Jet Jungle to the members attention having discovered him in a flee market many years ago now all documented in the gallery section of the WGSH.
Anyway I am back now and am looking for some advice and opinions from the members here. I have pmed a few but I think your all being a little shy so I am now opening out my request for feedback re a Super Hero Project I am working on to all you US members where ever you are in the US.
I have the opportunity to work on a project that combines my 2 greatest passions Art and Super Heros.
I am working with friend and we are looking at the possibility of putting on an art show in New York later this year of of art by a UK artist who is the only artist officially licensed to replicate the Marvel comic characters.
All I am looking for at the moment are members thoughts and opinions re the art and if you think there would be any interest in this artists work amongst Super Hero Collectors. Please see the attached images which I would like to hear your opinions on.
Here is a little synopsis of the artist taken from the press release put out before his recent sell out show in London in May this year and some of Paul's work which I would like to hear your opinions on.
Paul Mellia is the only artist officially licensed to replicate the Marvel comic characters, and his incredible 3-D interpretations of the timeless classics have won him a following around the world.
Celebrities including Lisa Marie-Presley, Seal and Tommy Lee are among those who own Paul’s work and the late Princess Diana was a fan.
Paul grew up in Essex and is a graduate of the Southend College of Art. But he’d discovered his love of Marvel comics at the age of four. Dyslexic, the comics appealed and Paul soon found he was able to interpret the characters in his own style, while staying truthful to the original artwork.
‘When I looked at the pictures I saw them in 3-D and from a very early age I was able to paint them in fine detail. I wanted to make them real, and also show a slightly different side to them,’ says the 50-year-old, who is based in the UK in London, but has spent time in Los Angeles working with Disney and Marvel. His only previous show, at the Sunset Boulevard Gallery in LA, sold out.
Those brought to life are: Superman; The Hulk; Catwoman; Capt America; Fantastic Four; Silver Surfer; Batman; Spiderman and The Joker. As well as the originals, there will be a series of 50 artist’s proofs of each character for sale. Each one has been individually embellished by the artist. Number one of each of these is taken by Warner’s, owner of the DC comics and Marvel comics, to be hung at their respective US headquarters.
Paul’s influences include Salvador Dali, David Hockney and the new generation of street stencil artists.
I would like to hear members thoughts re Paul's work and if you think there would be any interest in his work amongst Super Hero Collectors?
As I said at the moment I am just putting out feelers to see if collectors of Super Heros would be interested in Paul's art and to decide if we should go ahead with a NY show later this year.
I really would value your opinion.
I am not looking to sell this art at the moment just to get some feedback on the art.
Many thanks
