Anybody has or is considering buliding a BBQ grill/pit?

I'm gonna take a stab at it, a buddy of mine will help me build one in my backyard...I'm just sick of prefabricated ones.

It will be made of a combination of concrete and bricks.

it will be something like this, but not exactly (different configuration):

Hopefully I'll show some pictures when it's completed.

    How about you guys?

Not sure, but I think the morter (and perhaps the bricks in the pit) has to be a special kind to be heat resistant.

Also, the BBQ above looks like the charcoal tray and grill are permanently set in the morter.
    I wouldn't do that.
They have to come out for easy cleaning (and to dump the ash tray)

Only every day of my life, my father had one, his father had one.

Here's the number one reason I don't attempt it.

I'm not building that one, I just used a picture as an example of a home-made one.

Bricks are fine, just like on a chimney. I'm not going to be melting steel or anything, you know.

Certainly considered building one but being on the 3rd floor would proberly be bankrupt by the amount of brickes it would need

I actually like to build a true BBQ pit to slow cook (Barbeque) the meat, once I'm living in Indiana, again.

Keep us posted on your BBQ, Hec. Most interested here.

I went in this direction for several reasons. It has multiple uses, I welded a grate to go over 1/2 of it so I can get a good oak coal fire and cook the best steaks ever and I built a rotisserie for it also.

If you have a lot of yard debris it comes in real handy to burn in.

It's super nice to just hang out aroung and burn a few logs and BS with friends.

                          And it easy to do.

That fire pit looks awesome, but unfortunately the configuration must be squared.

That's awesome too, but again, I need something natural-looking that molds into my existing backyard.

                              Keep 'em coming, guys!
