"YOU'RE GONNA LIKE IT... WHEN HE'S ANGRY!!!"

Now THAT's a good slogan for a Hulk movie!

Unfortunately the only thing smashing are the critics. The Hulk is already at an abysmal 64% rating on rotten tomatoes. If high profile papers like the New York Times and USA Today follow with the same message, this film stands to lose steam in it's debut weekend and will likely follow a similar path as it's predecessor ( if not worse). I have to be honest. I'm a fan of this genre (obviously) and it will get my business this Saturday but, on a broader scale, I think this project was a mistake from the start. This movie has been plagued since day one with production issues and the late start in advertising (let alone a release of the Hulk's actual pic) really suggested deeper problems. This film, fair or not, carries, a greater expectation for both story and effects because of the original. While Marvel attempted to address these issues, it certainly sounds like they might have over-corrected and forsaken both story and characterization for a somewhat improved visual style. It hasn't been that long since the initial film left alot of ticket buyers disappointed and less than interested in further installments. For all the good will some might have for this new attempt, bad reviews will quickly turn the ticket buying public back indoors for a DVD release. I see one pretty descent weekend and then a massive drop off. Another missed opportunity and likely the last for the Hulk in his own series. From here on out I imagine he'll only pop up as a potential Avenger.
