    WPIX celebrates it's 60th Anniverary

For those in the New York /New Jersey area..WPIX/the CW 11 will be celebrating their 60th Broadcasting anniversary this saturday with a retro tv lineup from Noon till 9 shows include:
    The little Rascals
    The Abbott and Costello show
    The Three Stooges
    Adventures of Superman
    Get Smart
    My favorite Martian
    I dream of Jeannie
    The Odd Couple
    The Honeymooners
and rounding the night with a hour long retrospective.

Many of my fondest memories came from watching many of the reruns they gave. Although not all of the shows that they had will be shown this is still neat.

I live in central NYS, and WPIX was a staple in my house growing up. Most notably Yankee games with the Scooter, Bill White, and Frank Messer, and Abbott and Costello movies every Sunday morning at 11:30. And countless reruns of shows like KW mentioned..

I miss all of those NYC stations...they were a staple in our house (located in Central NY)back in the day...before the UPNs and the WBs of the world ruined everything so it was all homogenized.

                        Some of my WPIX memories:

                        - Abbott and Costello Sunday Movies (I remember watching this with my father...for a time I think the movie theme was "Popcorn" by Hot Butter)
                        - I was never a fan of the Yankee games because they often pre-empted the late night block of The Odd Couple (11pm), The Honeymooners (11:30pm) and (most importantly at midnight) The Twilight Zone!
                        - Tom and Jerry after-school ('bout 3pm?)..."Is you is, or is you ain't my baby?"
                        - And speaking of another cat and mouse...Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse.
                        - The Magic Garden with Paula and Carol (and Sherlock and the Giggle Patch and Story Box...'cause there aren't no locks on Story Box)
                        - Chiller Theatre...when that six-fingered hand popped up out of the quicksand I dove behind the couch on more than one occassion.
                        - "Pix! Pix! Pix! Pix!"...my brother sent in a postcard to play this early interactive (i.e. Intellivision) game...but alas, we weren't in their market so he never got a call and was pretty bumped out.

I use to love Captain Jack McCarthy who hosted the Popeye cartoons...He also did the annual St.Patricks Day parade every year on PIX.

I have some of those memories. And I miss the days of PIX when I was a kid. I'd love watching reruns of Nanny & The Professor, F-Troop, Flipper, Please Don't Eat the Daisies, Gilligan's Island, Family Affair, Batman & The Honeymooners. Kid's shows like Felix, Courageous Cat & Minute Mouse, Joya's Fun School, New Zoo Revue, The Magic Garden, Harvey Toons. And of course Saturday nights w/ Chiller Theatre! I loved that hand! I remember little about the movies, (though I love them now), but I couldn't wait for the beginning and commercial bumpers w/ that hand! In fact, even now before watching a B horror movie, I play the Chiller intro I have saved on my PC. And by the time the "PIX" game was on, I was in CA, where it was "Tom & Jerry and TV POWWW".

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY WPIX! Here's to another 60 years!
