I think if Buddy Holly had lived longer than 22 years, he might be a "no brainer" to fall into the category of musical genius. His career was simply too short, but what he produced in that short time had loads of influence on some of the very artists listed in this thread.Comment

Daryl Hall.
The guy gets little credit. Not only is he one of the best vocalists of all time, but he wrote 99% of his material (alone, with Oates, or sometimes with other collaborators), can play just about any instrument, and in many cases did the arrangements (trained by Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff). He was and still is a great showman as well. Their music consistently charted high simultaneously on the pop, R&B, and AC charts, one of the few white acts that could do that at all.
Many newer talents such as the Gym Class Heroes, Chromeo, and Geoff Byrd cite them as a major influence.

And I know of a lotta people that would argue that he was a genius in the lifetime he had (not if he had survived...) They'd say it is a "no-brainer" even though he died young...Comment
