even though 3 was really bad. supergirl was awful and 4 was a train wreck. they somehow are separate in the minds and hearts of audiences. i don't think they detract from the original. they are just there.

i checked out. tough now i have a nostalgic plce for jedi. prequels pooped on original trilogy, so for people like me (generally) they are detractors. younger crowd (after RotJ) who started with tPM love 'em all.

Sequels don't affect my enjoyment, or rankings, of the original movies. Nor do crappy remakes. Movies, for me at least, live or die based on their own merits.

Yep. No sequel has ever sullied my opinion of an original. I'm proud to say my childhood is completely intact and safe.

Yeah, I agree, no sequel or prequel has ever upset me to wreck the original. I just pretend they don't exist.

I put Star Wars in jokingly because yeah, there is nothing really wrong with Empire and Jedi is a decent ending. I personally just love that period of my life where SW was one perfect storm of a movie.

Star Wars is, admittedly, a whole other beast. The prequels haven't destroyed the originals in my eyes, but George Lucas has!

Oh yeah, I refuse to even acknowledge the special edition or call it "A New Hope" but that's just me.

I can't hate on your pick. It fits the idea of the thread. If the sequels don't live up to the backstories and follow-ups you have in your head it dilutes the original. I know the fire pit battle between Obi and Anakin I imagine as being more epic than the one we finally got in Episode 3.

Rambo being the best example, he was a vet suffering from PTSD , not a one man Wrecking Crew. Of course it made alot of money and but creative license be damned.

Did the original cut of Star Wars ever get a proper dvd/Blu-ray?

No. Well, it depends on what you mean by proper.

In 2004, a non-anamorphic laserdisc transfer was commercially released on DVD. But they are very poor.
