What's the Symbolism of a Star Tattoo?

I'm not into tattoos but I have seen 3 people now with tattoos in the shape of a 5 pointed star outlined in blue (2 of them have them located near their wrist and the other one has it near her ankle)...2 male and 1 female so I don't think it is gender specific.

Is there any significance to this star and does the location near the wrist or ankle mean anything?

Well as far as I know, a star means either they're a werewolf, or a WW2 US army aircorps pilot

I think it's just a Tattoo fashion thing at the moment.
I've been thinking about getting a star on my hand...I love Tattoo's
Not to crazy about the pain part though.

Yup. Kinda like the Celtic bands from a while back: everyone had one 'cos it was the thing to do.

                      Nahhh.

I don't like ANYTHING enough to have it permanently put on my body.

The star means nothing. They do look nice and appear to be the tattoo trend of the moment. It is overwhelmingly the current big thing. I would say a solid 25/30% or our current walk-ins are getting stars, shooting stars, nautical stars, groups of stars or images incorporating stars. It's sort of weird. I haven't seen a tattoo trend this strong since tribal stuff went mainstream back in the late 90's.
It sort of bugs me because about 8ish years ago I decided to get my neck tattooed. I wanted something I could live with, a strong graphic image with universal appeal... so I got black stars on either side of my neck. Now they might as well be dolphins or butterflies. Oh well.
