Got into work this morning at 6am.....6.10 am passenger alarm for one of our lifts goes off at the bottom landing...send a member of staff down to reset it..no one was trapped in there so nothing to worry about reguarding passengers. The member of staff completely perplexed as to what to do and not answering her radio as I was giving her advice on what to do...suffice to say, I had to go down there...as manager and trained on lift failures I cannot go down by lift and have to use the stairs....120 of them...so down I go reset the alarm and come up informing her to stay in the lift and bring it up to the top landing...120 stairs later and no sign of the lift moving....radio the member of staff...nothing....go into the control room and PA her to turn her radio on and respond ...nothing...on the monitors I can see she is fine but just standing there like a lemon...soooo back down the 120 stairs to inform her about the need for communiction, instruct her on what I want her to do then back up the 120 stairs...up the ladders and stairs to the machine room, try and put it in service...nothing ...so wrestle it into power wind mode (dont ask) and radio down to member of staff...nothing...try lift communicator...nothing....so down the ladders and stairs ...down the 120 steps...again tell staff about using communications devices and inform her of what I'm gonna do...back up 120 stairs up ladders and steps and bring lift to top landing ....get to top landing to see if member of staff managed to get out of lift ok...'cos suprise suprise she didnt answer the 3 ways of communicting...into a couple of customers demanding I put the othjer lift into service...now i'm covered in sweat at having to negotiate the stairs many times...to the point where my white shirt is virtually see through. I informed customer politely that there has been a problem and that the other lift is in service to which he replys "well you should f**king fix it thats what you get paid for"....well I nearly lost it there and then...but just replied to him in a menacing tone "oh dear sir ...you be careful that that lift doesn't go out of service while your in it" ....he looked at me and decided to take the stairs.
