I haven't thought of this in decades.

I watch it that Saturday morning and have found memories of that. Thanks for this!

I was playing with the Batman and Robin Pocket Heroes and Batmobile.

Wow, I didn’t remember that the kids wouldn’t move off of the Peter Cross topic. Ace loved Peter and you could tell he was pleased. Gene and Paul probably weren’t nearly as happy about the line on questioning. Poor Eric was stuck in middle.

I totally remember my eight year old brain thinking Paul was BSing the audience and it made no sense.

Now as an adult, I can totally see Ace's pleasure while the other two squirm.

No, I don't believe they were seeing Peter on a social basis, on a regular basis, at that time, either. Complete BS. I guess he said it for the kids, but tell the truth...kids are people too!

Love this clip, I missed it as kid but caught it years later on some KISS compilation bootleg VHS I bought at a record show.

I love Ace and this is one of the reasons why.

Errr guys.... you DO know that Peter still had a stake in KISS and KISS had a stake in Peter Criss' solo career at that time. A financial stake.

Ace's annoying behavior may be entertaining to those of you who take his side.... but this ain't Tom Snyder folks.

During THIS era, Paul needed KISS (and his own persona) to stay connected to Peter MULTIPLE ways in the eyes of the fans. While Paul might have truly despised Peter, the "Peter" mentions only helped KISS (Paul & Gene).

Peter didn't leave the band he was fired and Ace was in on the firing. The fired him because he was egotistical, lazy, a marginal drummer, couldn't read music and couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Ace also got along fantastically with Eric. On his behavior in the interview, he was probably high as a kite as usual.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

This clip, along the aforementioned Tom Snyder appearance, are perfect illustrations of why I always favored Ace above Gene and Paul. Ace, warts and all, at least always comes off as genuine and spontaneous. Gene and Paul were always manipulating these appearances to build their brand and fill their pockets, and by contrast seem less than honest in their responses. And Eric Carr, by all accounts, was a wonderful band mate and human being, and a much, much better drummer than Peter Criss.

Yes, Ace was/is a good time. Quite genuine.

I'd say that's because Ace didn't value KISS as much as Gene & Paul did, so Ace behaved as if he had nothing to lose.

Well... we see how that attitude served Ace in the legendary "KISS power struggles".... Were Ace's actions worth the career he made? I ask that question sincerely.... its up to you to interpret.

Personally, I feel that Gene & Paul may not be that fun... but I respect that they had to put up with the two "cooler" guys to do what needed to be done to keep the band from imploding as well as retain any power they might have going into KISS' future.

IMHO, Gene & Paul gave Peter and Ace a decent amount of rope (solo album freedoms, ghost musicians to keep on schedule, etc) ... and those two "cool" guys hung themselves with it. But that's just my opinion.

Agree with all of this. To me Ace is a lovable f***up, but with him what you see is what you get. Paul and Gene have never seemed genuine in interviews, Paul speaks mostly in soundbites and Gene just seems too pompous and miserable most of the time. Peter was a whiner who had delusions of grandeur. It's funny, KISS fans (like myself) are usually fully aware of their heroes' weaknesses but still love the band anyway. I know that they are deeply flawed individuals but the 10 year old me who fell in love with them is still inside me and still holds them in high regard. And yeah, I've never heard anyone say anything bad about Eric Carr (except Paul in his autobiography, which made me a bit sad) and seemed by far the most likeable member.

And yes, I'm fully aware of the business dealings between KISS and Peter and Ace when they left the band. There was a reason why although Ace left in 1982, the first Frehley's Comet album was not released until 1987, he was waiting until he didn't have to share any of the album's profits with his ex-bandmates.

                        I don't think the "H" is necessary.
