We've been looking to get a freezer, and found there are two basic types.A chest style or an upright, which looks like your regular fridge. They both do the same basic thing, keeps your frozen stuff frozen. But the problem is the pushy sales people, seems everyplace we look only the most expensive one is the best one, changing from store to store. So I pose the question to everybody here,if you have a freezer what kind is it,and what do like about, any help will be greatly appriciated.

Kind of depends on how much you'll be storing in it. I know chest freezers come in lots of different sizes to accommidate freezing different pounds of items. Not real sure if the uprights have as many size availibilitiesComment

We have a Frigidaire chest style freezer and are happy with it. I'm guessing the upright style is probably more convenient, compared to digging through the chest style one when you're looking for something that ends up being at the bottom of the freezer. But those probably cost more for the same amount of freezer space.Comment

Don't forget to consider the space when picking out a freezer too. I like the chest type and I'm not a hunter.Read my blog at Moongem Comics about comics, toys and more.Comment

We used to have a tiny upright, and it was ok, but we always had to put the lock on it, to make sure it didn't open by accident. That was kind of annoying. I don't know if they make better ones now. At least with the chest type of freezer, you wouldn't have to worry about it accidentally opening. Those who look outside dream. Those who look within awake.

I used to have either a Hotpoint or a Norge upright... (I forgot)
It was great, but like Jessica mentioned, I had problems with the door not staying shut.
Eventually, it came to the point where I would keep a roll of duct tape on the top of it...
I'd tape it shut everytime I was done using it.
I'm sure by now they're a lot better.Last edited by Mikey; May 25, '08, 12:17 PM.Comment

I have a large upright i inherited when my grandfather died. Used it all the time, but when the boys went off to school I ended up emptying it and it just kinda sits. We definately kept it stocked when we did use it and it definately let us buy bigger amounts of meats and stuff. Definately was cheaper at the time. We just bought a larger refigerator/freezer for the kitchen and that fits us well now. I didn't have any door issues, but they make a velcro child safety lock that would solve that problem fairly inexpensively. Best Buy has some decent deals and you can usually get a 0% interest deal if you apply for and use a Best Buy card. Don't be afraid to pit the different stores against each other. Did that with my TV and saved huge dollars. Faced off Circuit City against Best Buy and got 5% below CC's bargain basement,"Sorry we don't have any of those left can I show you another model" 3 hours after the sale started price with BB's 2+years at 0% . Research is huge, and carry the sales flyers with you, cuz they may ask you to prove it. Use online too. SEARS will print out their online stuff for you in the store if you ask and that will sometimes work as proof for the other stores. Make sure you watch the flyers after you buy too. Got $60 back on the new refrigerator 3 weeks after I bought it cuz it went on sale cheaper when the new model came out. They took it right off my card, no questions asked. Best Buy offers a reward zone card. There's a fee but if you're making a major purchase, you'll usually get it all back plus in Best Buy bucks right off the start. You might want to look into it. I love doing this stuff, it's like a game to me, to see the cheapest price I can get. Have fun!!It's not a doll it's an action figure.Comment
