    In Memoriam Half.com 4/16/99 - 8/31/17

I've bought a lot of books, DVDs, and CDs at Half.com over the past 17 years.

    You will be missed.

    Rest in peace.

Crud. I thought they had better bargains on video games than Amazon.

Oh, wow. That's too bad, it was a good place to find DVD-R sets of old TV shows. I haven't checked it the last couple of years and I'm sad to find out this just now.

Crazy that I had to discover the news about the closure at the MM of all places. Never got an email about half.com, in fact, my last email from them was within a few weeks ago informing me about a direct deposit being scheduled. I was a buyer/seller from the beginning and had a lot of success when I had the ability to sell anything I wanted. After a while, the site became less interested in allowing the freedom to post anything in a Craigslist-y fashion and become more devoted into only being able to sell retail items with UPC barcodes. Thanks to the site I was able to earn some money on the side when my kids were wearing diapers, it was especially useful to sell toys or original music and movies (while I made copies to keep for myself.)

Probably, if I recall correctly, my biggest single success at one time was selling an Under Capricron Alfred Hitchcock VHS tape, one of the less popular color films and maybe the least popular of the 3 she did with Hitchcock. I think all his films are great, some I just like more than others. I bought the VHS tape on the cheap for like $2 and sold it for like $50. The film isn't as hard to find due to the advent of disc media and beyond.

I used to buy from half all the time. But then eBay changed something...can't remember what it was...and I stopped.

I honestly forgot it existed. That is a freaky feeling.
