    Do You Believe in Ghosts?

I realize I might be opening a can of worms by posting this, but this is actually a serious thread. I am actually hoping for earnest replies.

I have experienced some weirdness recently, and I'm curious if anyone else has had similar bouts of unexplained phenomena.

I wrote a blog about my recent experiences:

    I Have a Ghost? Really?!

Please, only serious responders need post.

Would you consider reasoned skepticism a "substantive" response? There is always a rational explanation for these kinds of phenomena. That you or I or anyone to whom you describe these events might not be able to see the explanation, does not mean that one does not exist.

Here are some possible reasons for the events you list:

May 12: A draft blew the blinds aside or apart long enough for light to come in. The drafts could derive from a tiny, unseen crack in the window sill, or from the indoor ventilation system. Air conditioning is starting to blow at this time of year.

May 20: Late morning: Surface sensations like this could be nothing more than the restoration of circulation to areas of your epidermis that have been deprived of it for a few minutes without your knowing, for example by tight clothing such as blue jeans. Or you might have had your leg pressed against something while you worked, say the inside of your desk, cutting off circulation; then when you moved it and circulation was restored, you felt the tingling feeling that you associate with your pet rubbing up against you. Just one possibility.

After lunch: There might have been something stuck under the door, such as a piece of paper or other debris, that impeded it from closing properly.

After work: Your cell phone service provider committed an error of some kind. It might have been some radio tower malfunction, or simple human error.

All of these possibilities are just that: possibilities. But each of them is more likely than the presence of non-corporeal spirits that have lived on after the death of their mortal bodies. If these explanations do not suffice, I suggest you keep investigating until you find the answers. Otherwise you're liable to lose your self-professed skepticism, and become credulous and undiscerning, which is a dangerous condition for the mind to live in.

As a kid I have had similiar encounters with such unexplaned events. Didnt believe in anything like that but have actually heard and seen things I still to this day cant explain. We lived in a old farmhouse growing up. We would heard voices coming from the closet when no one else was in the house. At times you would catch a shadow of a person standing in the corner. Feel someone staring at you and be compelled to turn and look only to see something scurying away out of the corner of your eye. At first my and my younger brother were almost convinced that it was our imagination going in overdrive but my parents and older brother had the same dealings. I try not to think about it but it bothered me to grow up in that house. My mom use to tell us if you pay it no mind and ignore it then it wont bother you. Dont actually know what that meant but try and not think of that stuff. Dont actually believe in stuff like that but cant explain what used to happen in that house as a child. This was a serious response.

          real stuff

Oh yeah ghost are real for sure! I'm in a pretty new house but every once and a while we hear clear loud footsteps run through our kitchen between 11:15pm and Midnight. Its very clear that its a loud run. Besides that I had many weird ghost experiences. Like UFO's I say ghosts exist. Talking about that isnt the new Ghosthunters tomorrow? On Sci Fi. Or is it thurs?

I believe they are possible. I'm fairly open minded to these sort of things, but I'm also naturally skeptical.

              Do You Believe in Ghosts?

I want to say no, but reluctantly I must say yes.

The house I grew up in was haunted (I kid you not).

I can name many incidents, but just to name a few .....

              1. First, I lived in a country area where the houses were far and few ... Every 2 days everyone (including me) can clearly hear footsteps coming up my porch steps (they were wood) ... followed by knocks on the front door .... When you go to see who it is, nobody was there.... This went on for about 4 years then suddenly stopped for no reason ...
Once I actually sat on the porch all day waiting to see what was doing it.
Took about 5 hours of waiting ... Then I hear the footsteps ... I walk over to the door and look out the door's window (nobody there) but the knocking started...
That's when I knew something beyond normal science was happening.

              2. We also used to see a very old man standing halfway up the second floor steps... You would only see him for a second, but when you tried to focus your eyes on him to try and get a good look, he's dissolve.

The stuff I listed above was not viewed by a scared 5 year old kid either .....
I was already in high school.

There's quite a few on London Underground...I'm not sure if they have tickets
But there's none at my station.

I did see a UFO once...well three of them.
They span around in the sky making a circle, then they shot off in different
directions in the sky like a starburst...then my window fell out...I'll never forget it.

I do believe as well because of personal experiences... Both the house I grew up in and a house I had before I got married spooked me several times and I saw and felt things that could only be explained by spirits in the houses... I had several people over to my house who said they felt the same things... I walked in once and out of the corner of my eye saw someone standing in my living room, thought I was going to have to fight an intruder and when I squared up towards the person or whatever it was, it vanished, I then let Luey (my dog/son) out of the kitchen and he ran right to the spot and made sounds I never had, or never did hear from him again...

Very interesting topic and great responses so far. I must admit that I am a big skeptic. I have yet to have any out of the ordinary experiences that I am aware of as of yet. I do like reading others stories of such events. Makes me think that with so many others telling different stories from different areas that perhaps there just maybe more going on than what I have been exposed to so far.

I am agnostic when it comes to Ghosts, and Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster and stuf. I would love to think they exist and I am certainly no authority on it, but I am not sure that they do. I like to belive that we don't have an answer for everything, and that there are some real mysteries left in the world.

I really WANT to say I don't believe in spooks because it's just not logical ... but I seen too much stuff.

I wish I did believe in them, but I've never had any experiences. I've heard tell of some great ones, like Mikes. I had a roommate who seemed to be a ghost magnet, she had the "shine".

My Dad and grandfather have both seen UFOs in New Mexico.

I do belive - never seen any my self
My grand mother said she lived with one (1930s). You would hear it come up the stairs and no one would be there, and the toilet would flush when you where on it.
A year after she moved out the house was torn down because no one would live in it.
My great grandmother went to vist got to the door said there was somthing wrong with that house and refused to go in, but she had no problem with my grandmother living there.
