New Car vs. Motel Room -- which was more fun ?

I dunno about yous but some of my fondest childhood memories was staying in motel rooms on family trips.

We usually stayed at Holiday Inn's (if possible) .. also Best Westerns (though you never knew what you were going to get with them) GREAT or DUMP.

Also, when a parent bought a new car and brought it home for the first time.

I still remember first seeing my mom's brand new '76 AMC Hornet and thinking this has to be the coolest car ever built

We never went on trips and stayed in motels that I remember. If we went on a long trip we usually were visiting family and staying there.
My dad bought a brand new '74 AMC Hornet. I liked it but it was small. I remember his dad visiting after he got it and called it a "cracker jack box". I'll have to check on the interwebs and see what a '76 looked like.
I definitely liked AMCs. They were easy to work on. In my twenties I had a '76 Gremlin. It had a V6 and weighed nothing. It took awhile to get used to it. When I first got it was like Dukes of Hazard every time I went around a corner.

Motel room, easy. Always loved them. Plus, we didn't have cable so that was s bonus.

We did more camping than staying in motels.

Yes, camping over motels too...going to the beach was on top of my most favorite family gathering lists as well...

Never have really cared about cars. Leased my first "new" car just last year, and although it's really nice to be worry free for the most part, cars for me are a way to get from point A to point B. My folks didn't have a "new" car until I was a teenager. All used cars up till then.

And much like greensavage2000, when we went on trips it was to stay with family or friends. Almost exclusively. Only times we stayed in a motel was once or twice on our annual trips to Portland, Or. We usually stayed with a relative on the way there. So a motel stay was unusual, but not really a treat. Just kind of different. These days though, staying in a nice hotel is a treat!
