A couple of weeks ago, a guy stole an FDNY ambulance for an joy ride. In the process, he ran over one of the EMT's and killed her.

20 + years ago when I was a paramedic we had a kill switch you activated before leaving the unit.
As soon as the brake pedal was hit (putting in gear) it killed the unit.
Either they are not installing them anymore or somebody didn't set it.
