Do you have an ice cream truck where you live?

Well I guess summer came early this year.I was doing yard work yesterday and I heard those musical chimes coming down the street.It was only in the 60's but sunny,and that was good enough I guess.The musical trance trapped the neighbor kids and they came running to the curb waiting for their treat. I had a flash back right there rembering when I was little and ice cream being delivered right to me was the greatest thing.You didn't think about bacteria,dirty hands or salmonila.It was just ice cream,and as the truck rolled past I about laughed out loud,the truck was so rusty and crappy looking.Probably the same truck from some 25 years ago,heck I wouldn't throw ice cream at it let alone eat anything from it.Well what I was getting at do you have an ice cream truck selling treats on your streets?If so enjoy the sounds of summer,

They pass by my house everyday there's an elementary school and park near by,but Miami these Ice cream trucks are all over the place

Back when I was a kid. "Mr Softy" was the greatest. Back then the company was franchised. The driver always had the clean white uniform and the trucks were pristine. I wanted to live in one of those trucks as a kid.

Now obviously the company went under and the trucks were sold off to whoever. we still have them here but they are rusted or painted over. The chimes never work right. The drivers well.. I wouldnt buy any thing from them.

And they dont even make the icecream any more its all pre packaged store bought stuff at three times the price. I pity kids these days not knowing what the real Mr Softy experience was really like.

THE ICE CREAM MAN!!!!!!! When you heard that music then you'd hear a kid shouting the ice cream man is coming! I haven't seen one in years. As a kid it coincided with summertime.

Back when i was a kid talking early-mid 70s we had a MR SOFTY truck that came around everyday around 2pm

My old boss had one that he renovated for his daughters so they could sell all summer and make some money but they were both too scared to drive it so he ended up driving it all summer, while they sold stuff. The whole family was grossly overweight, even the dog was fat, it looked like a tick. Anyway it was sort of amusing. Now we don't have one where we live cause I moved away to the country.

Years ago the Good Humour truck used to come around twice a week.
That ended over 20 years ago.

I guess up North it's super different,they are just all over the place here.At every single school when the bell rings there's one or two

oh and the ones here,now sell Pizza,hot dogs,Pan con bistec(Cuban bread and steak sandwich)

I get "paleteros" knocking on my door all the time.



There's an elementary school right on the end of my street, and these paleteros on these very traditional personal push ice-box on wheels, stroll down the street every school day. Lots of kids gather and buy from paleteros, and adults come out from the houses and buy as well.

They carry both American-style stuff, and Mexican paletas de agua or leche (water-based or milk-based).



Mexican fruit paletas are delicious (made from real fruits), very refreshing.

No, we haven't had a truck around here in years. Sometimes you'll see a pushcart w/ pre-fabbed ice cream pops and sicles on the avenue or near the park. But give me the days of the Mister Softee trucks serving those soft-serve cones w/ rainbow sprinkles!

Still have them. They're basically golf carts with a freezer compartment. Not too long ago, we used to have teenage boys selling ice cream with their Ice Cream Trikes...



I haven't seen any for a few years. But the Golf Carts are a good idea. They have the Midi-Music soundtrack with tunes like Music Box Dance or Dixie on endless loop.

Amazing how we respond so positively to that music -- like Pavlov's dog!

Nah,the nearest one is in Decatur. I always see them at the apartment complex behind Captain D's.
