    Powerless!

Why is no one talking about Powerless?! Or they were and I missed the thread.
I just started watching it this week on Hulu- it is HILARIOUS!
Yes, Vanessa Hudgens was a really weird choice for the main character, but because she is usually the straight guy/fall guy for the jokes, it seems to work somehow.
And ALAN TUDYK!!!! Or however you spell his name. He's fantastically ridiculous.
I feel like the show tries to point out all the absurdities of comics as well as how insane it would be to live in a city where super heroes and villians are fighting all the time. Anyways, if you didn't like the first episode. just skip to episode 4, "Emily Dates a Henchmen." My husband ran across the house to see what was wrong with me because I was laughing so hard.

My wife had it on while I was in the room last week and I found nothing funny in the episode (it centered on a rash of cold villains, building toys for the boss and a gadget contest at Wayne Co.) at all and thought it was actually painful to watch. I left the room before it was over and will not be watching any more of it. My wife cancelled the series on our DVR after that episode too, so I wasn't the only one in the house who didn't enjoy it. She wanted to like it, but just didn't. I thought it was a poor concept for a show from the get go. But to each their own I guess.

To be fair, I have a really stupid sense of humor. And I'm one of those people who thinks about dumb stuff during comic battles like "what happened to all of those people inside that building?"
At the same time, a bunch of people raved about Luke Cage and I was excited for the show, but never made it through an entire episode.
      To each there own indeed!

And to be fair, I find most comedic writing on tv these days to be predictable and cliche, and if I can see the joke/punch line coming a mile away I am never amused. A lot of the humor in comedy comes from the shock/surprise of the punchline or gag, and if that's not there for me (as I find with most tv & Hollywood comedies these days), I find it flat and humorless, even when lots of other people find it hilarious. And in the episode of Powerless that I did watch most of, there wasn't one joke or gag I didn't see coming long before the punchline or gag was delivered/revealed, so I was bored rather than amused and wincing at the level of predictability in the writing. But then, that's me and I know it. It also means I can't rewatch a lot of comedies even if I like them the first time because the humor falls flat for me if I see it a second time.

I keep forgetting to watch it, or set the DVR on it. I know Adam West is going to guest star soon. I think I'll go set that DVR right now!

I am someone who has read tons of comics and find it pretty funny. My husband refuses to read comics ( I know, it can be embarrassing at cons, I have to rehearse with him what to and not to say lol) and he found it amusing as well, at one point even proudly saying "I understood that reference!" so lay folk can get a kick out of too. If you aren't too smart to enjoy some silly comedy
Sweet, I love Adam West in an intentional comedy setting :D

I watched 3 or so episodes in a sitting a few weeks ago. It was fine, but didn't grab me. I might binge a few more in the future. It's not the kind of show I'll bother to watch each week, but it's OK when the mood hits.

My whole family was excited for it but it didn't really take. We made it into 3 shows before we all kind of went "Bleah".

It's a good cast but i find it kind of formulaic and leaning too much on references.

Hopefully they will go into more individual character building, I think they will need to in order for the show to last.
So many super intense dramas on tv these days. I'm not complaining exactly because I love most of them. But sometimes it is fun to have a little break from the suspense for a little silly. I'm a big fan of Superstore too (and Brooklyn 99 if it EVER gets off hiatus), because it's nice to relax and laugh every now and then.
