Jeff Dunham playing at the Oracle Arena in Oakland TONITE!
YAY! Finally! Jeff Dunham is playing here in Oakland! I don't have to fly or stay in a hotel or take a bunch of buses and BART trains to see him! I'm so excited!
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
I'm sure you're a fan and not looking for someone to hate on Dunham, but he's a guy I don't entirely understand. I remember seeing him AGES ago on the old Improvs and he was laugh out loud hilarious. Working the audience and doing some fun stuff with Peanut and the old guy. But he sort of disappeared and then when he came back, it seemed like he dumbed down his comedy, his ventriloquism got noticeably worse and he sort of became Larry the Cable Guy with puppets.
And yet, he exploded in popularity and was the "IT" comedy act for about a year. Good on him I guess, but I never understand how that happens. I feel like there's a huge segment of the country that will only accept you if you do the most bland trite humor. It seems like success comes to you if you play to that crowd. I dunno.
Glad you're getting to see him though, I don't begrudge anyone a good laugh and I imagine he's probably better in person.
I've meet Jeff a few times and sold him Captain Action stuff in person. He met my wife and I after one of his shows in St. Louis. He's a cool guy, and owns one of the 1989 Batmobiles.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Yes, I had a wonderful time. Laughing so hard at certain bits that I couldn't breathe!
