Battle Of the Network Stars

It's been reported that ABC has announced that they're reviving Battle Of the Network Stars. They haven't made any decisions on who will host or who will be participating, but production is scheduled to begin in May.

How many "Networks" will be included this time? Originally it was ABC, NBC, & CBS. Now there's so many to choose from it could look like a March Madness bracket!
Won't be the same without Robert Conrad!

Im not sure I would care for today's version...Back then it was a simple, fun show...All your favorite actors competing against each other....But since so much of tv today is based around all this reality tv crap, I just don't know....they already have these competition shows now where you have teams competing against one another in weird or death-defying events...but again, everything today is so reality tv based...Im thinking a 90's version of Battle of Network Stars it might have been cool.....But who knows, a 2017 version might end up being a hit...

Back then it was fun...there were like only a dozen channels...nothing else on TV. Plus a TV star back then was indeed a TV star.

Now? 1000 channels. Thousands of so called celebrities like reality "stars". YouTube "stars". Internet "stars"...and so on.

Who is going to compete? Screech? Atlanta Housewives? The Kardashians? Honey Boo Boo? Big World Little People? The feuding couple from Flip or Flop?

I'll pass...

In my opinion, this will never work. too many networks, too many so called celebrities, and not enough commonality in TV today. Back when we had 3 networks, (and maybe 2 or 3 additional channels), celebrities meant something, b/c everyone watched pretty much the same things. Specials like this were an event. There's no such thing as a "TV special" anymore, and with cable and sattelite, Netflix, and Amazon, not to mention YouTube, what people watch and the celebs they like is anybody's guess. Gone are the days (man I sound like my mother!) of coming into work or school and asking "Did you see______ on TV last night?" and getting a positive response b/c there are just too darn many choices, and nothing that's truly iconic anymore. I don't even watch network TV anymore, (w/ a few occasional exceptions), b/c the majority of it is just garbage.

When I was 7 years old, my cousins told me I HAD to go see this movie called Star Wars. I had never heard of it and had no idea what was going on in theaters across the globe. The only thing my 7 year old mind could come up with was "why would anyone want to see a battle of network stars on a movie screen for an hour and a half?"

I completely agree...It's funny, but I actually miss the days of "old tv" when you only had a handful of channels to watch...back then it was just a plain tv show...Make believe...None of this reality stuff and drama like you have in today's tv world...And trust me, I have Directv with an endless supply of channels to watch, and I can still only find about 3 channels on a regular basis worth watching...Plus back then, your stars were more memorable...I think anyway...20 or 30 yrs from now, people probably won't remember half the people on tv today...They come and go....Same can be said for music...Classic vs. modern stuff...

If they do it right, it'll help a TV culture that's undeniably irreversibly losing it's audience.

Not saying they are GOING to do it right...

BUT, frankly, the only thing that'll save TV's dwindling audience is ideas just like this BOTNS, ideas that are unique and potentially pooling certain network's resources... again, IF done cleverly.
